this was good, and exactly what it says on the tin. following hannah and veronica on the ✨event✨ that is so highly spoken about in the duology. not essential to read but i’m glad i have done now!

this was so fun?? it flowed really nicely and had a focus on so many of my favourite things: greek mythology, plant magic and inheritance of creepy houses (okay, that last one’s a little odd but you get it)

and the mums!!! the angels!!! the sweethearts!!! supportive parents ARE real and it’s them <3

briseis as our main character led to a strong voice that honestly knew and understood just as much as we did. getting to be in her head for the short duration of this book was great - gonna go pick up the sequel immediately.

i do wish that the romance side of things was either further developed or not included? it felt a bit out of place whenever it popped up. hopefully this’ll be expanded on in the sequel!

honestly, the first 100 pages of this book had me convinced it was going to be a 5 star. the worldbuilding, the premise, the introduction to the characters? all perfect!

but the pace really dragged towards the second half, i think predominantly it’s because it was a journey centred book. it was a whole lot of walking and that’s really about it? i was hoping for some more exploration and a deeper connection to the characters but it just sort of felt like set up and i’m not sure what’ll come next? even the battle scenes i kinda felt meh towards. but i loved the writing!! and the characters!!

the queernormative world and disability rep were so so well done though and i’ll definitely be picking up the sequel! i think it has a lot of potential :)

this was ridiculously confusing and took me so long to get through BUT i loved it anyways <3

idk so much was happening and it was so difficult to follow but i loved the world it created, how complex it was and the future of this series seems bright!

kihrin is a new comfort character for sure (even if he’s not very comforting)

also trigger warnings for absolutely everything.

what just happened

i thought this was miles better than the first one? i think it goes in a different direction that just worked for me!

however
the cheating trope thing is weird… why would she kiss sel when she’s dating nick?? i hate love triangles so much

this was very sweet and very fast!

i think that’s the element that took away from my enjoyment - none of the characters or plot was ever fully developed. (it’s also the start of a series, i think, which i didn’t realise initially!)

but it was super enjoyable, very fun and lighthearted and an easy read. i’m glad i picked it up :)

Obie Is Man Enough

if it’s the second time i’m dnfing the book. it’s probably not a me thing.

i couldn’t get passed the ridiculous use of slurs every page, and unnecessary deadnaming. there are ways to make the points you want to make without ostracising your transgender audience. it is painful and a gut punch everytime you see someone treated that way, especially a child. and especially when there are ways to do it that aren’t so graphic (it’s not the word i’m looking for but it’s the only one i’ve got)

this book tries to teach good lessons but i think the intentions were a lot more well done than the book itself. i don’t know what child id recommend this book to, why would anyone want their reading experience to be filled with abuse? especially young transgender kids. this book is definitely more for the cisgender community to take as a lesson i think.

i’m definitely in the minority on this opinion so idk keep your options open
