I really persevered with this one. I pushed through determined to finish it but the story was the kind of YAF that just didn’t feel like it transcended through age brackets.... it struggled to keep my attention. But I kept waiting for it to get good. It felt a bit wishy-washy.

This was a really fun, effortless read that I managed to smash through in a night. It was very reminiscent of Netflix’s The Kissing Booth. I can see teenage girls loving this!

This was the second time I picked up this book with the intention of finishing it. Once again I just could not stick with it, I feel it doesn’t have the captivating pull of Morton’s previous novels. So I have listed it as “I have finished this book” but its sitting very much unfinished & unloved on my shelf.

Cilka’s Journey was yet another wonderful addition to Morris’s quiver of well researched & wonderfully written works of literary art! It will take you through all the emotions. At times I had to stop & take some time to process the enormity of what was happening... this might be just a novel based on stories but the gut-wrenching truth lies just beyond the stories, & it’s awful but necessary reading, in my opinion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this novel. So much so that I stayed up far too late reading it last night just to get to the end. I needed to know where Owens was taking things... I really loved the character of Kya, she was interesting & I was deeply invested in her story. It took me a bit to get into the Southern way of speaking (I’m Australian) but understood it was essential to the story’s location. Definitely on my list of “recommendations” for reading in 2020.

I really loved this book, I had been waiting for a book to draw me in like this. It reminded me of Kate Morton’s earlier novels, an enjoyable story that I just devoured. I absolutely love this style of writing, the meshing together of eras & lives & just a slight element of mystery.
