OK story, clever mystery, though perhaps a bit convoluted:
Spoilerwith the murder victim hiding a part of a letter in a cabinet at the shop. Why not the whole letter?
Other than that, well crafted.

I wasn't wowed by the book though. But it flowed well enough to keep me reading. The ending nearly made my drop my rating when
SpoilerHugh stepped through the door with Lily on his arm. Livie and Maddie hadn't even had time to pick up the pieces of the broken cabinet, and he's already managed to get a cast on his arm and convinced Social Services that he is Lily's biological father?
I decided to overlook that one.

Okay read, not really my cup of tea.

Too many characters, too much talking while eating.

The plot of two corpses from long ago popping up was interesting. But once Marygene investigated into the past of the women, it was pretty easy to pick the who. Actually, pretty strange the police never went to talk to the cousin of the women.

I read an ARC through NetGalley.

All right mystery, well written, but too many "that doesn't quite make sense" moments to make it an un-put-downable read. For instance: Genevieve suspects Daniel of being Robin Hood because of his mysterious background and because she has heard him speak of Robin Hood in the street. What? Another is
Spoiler Genevieve is attacked and she (and Daniel) assume it is because someone wants to stop her from uncovering the truth, But Genevieve has not shared with anyone (besides Daniel) what she is investigating. So how would the attacker know about it, much less be threatened by it?

I liked the historical setting, but I didn't like that both Genevieve and Daniel were both quick to anger and show this emotion in their body language. Most people hide their anger much better. Also, I didn't care much about Daniel's point of view in the story, as it mostly seemed to consist of reflection on his attraction and admiration of Genevieve. A point of view better suited for a romance novel.
