hopeful informative reflective

This is an informative yet mostly accessible book about neurodiversity and neurodivergence. I agree with a lot of the arguments, such as how it is discriminative to pathologize autistic people, identity-first language ('autistic' instead of 'person with autism') makes sense when it comes to autism, functioning labels are unhelpful and harmful, and ABA is an abusive practice that needs to end. One argument I strongly disagree with however, is that "autism is not a disability, but autistic people are disabled." Even in a world that adopts the social model of disability, and in which I get accomadations, me being autistic would still make me a disabled person. The accomadations would just help to make me feel more comfortable. Overall this is an insightful book insight for anyone regardless of their neurotype.

This is one of the strangest and most unique horror and magical realism novellas I have ever read. It is the story of Left and Right, two halves of a man who was cut in half. They have no memory of who they were before they were separated, but still manage to build a life together until one of them decides to put distance between himself and his brother. I love this delightfully strange book and I am so grateful to Tenebrous Press for publishing it. <3

Four hikers go to an isolated location, not expecting the horrors awaiting them. Clay wants to explore the valley for a dissertation, Dylan is a climber and she wants to be the first to climb the wall, Luke is her boyfriend, and Sylvia is a botanist. Luke also has the not-so-bright idea to bring his dog Slade, and ignores the signs of distress Slade expresses when they all arrive at the valley. There are also brief chapters of past events that occured in the valley that emphasize how hostile it is. Even if this is fictional, it can still serve as yet another example of how nature isn't meant to be conquered or controlled.

Even though I'm childfree, I still found this book to be very helpful and comforting. The essays in this anthology come from autistic people of different races, genders, sexualities, and support needs. Books like these are essential for understanding and acceptance of autism, and disability in general.
