This brings a new spin on the thought that if you could do it all over again, would you? Georgie is a sitcom writer who has to miss out on Christmas in Omaha with her husband's Neal family due to the "chance of a lifetime" popping up in that the idea that she and her writing partner have had for a show idea for the last 10+ years may get picked up. Hubby is understandably upset about this and opts to still go with their two girls and leave Georgie behind. She is understandably upset and wonders if this time, in her desire to succeed as a comedy writer, she has pushed him away. In one of her visits to her mom she calls Neal on her landline phone in her older room only to have younger Neal pick up, from a Christmas week past where he left her to return to Omaha for the holiday, opening up a door for Georgie to possibly change the past, present, and future. This isn't a time travel book -- true the phone appears to be a conduit to the past but it also touches on the idea of if the past already happened then is Georgie really doing anything?

It was a really enjoyable read -- a nice blend of comedy, sadness, and hard questions that sometimes people don't want to ask themselves. Like is it enough sometimes to just have "enough"? Do we need it all to live happily ever after or should we be content with what we have? I really enjoyed the glimpse into Georgie's mind especially when it came to the "Mommy" guilt she felt for working and how she felt like an extra accessory to her family unit instead of a component. I think most parents feel that way at some time or another in their lives. The cast was well developed too -- her mother was hilarious, her sister charming. Neal the husband actually annoyed me for a majority of the book just from what he said, the way he acted, and the way he was described but when I got to the end I realized it was just his personality and he was brisk. I don't like giving too much away in my reviews but I would recommend this to anyone who has ever thought that they should have taken that right turn at Albuquerque when they went left since everyone has wondered at some point "What if I had done this? What if I had dated/married them instead? How different/better would my life be or would it?" Another winner from Rainbow Rowell -- now I just have to find and read her YA books since I am anticipating those to be excellent as well!
