I picked this up after enjoying the TV series "Rizzoli and Isles" so much and really enjoyed this one. I was surprised that it's touted as one in the series since Jane is not a major figure and Isles never shows up but it had me on the edge of my seat with the suspense and figuring out how it wil all play out. I've always enjoyed Gerritsen's tone and look forward to reading the others in the series.

Even though they are a little hokey with the attributing the writing credit to the fictional character, I love all the Castle books and this one was no exception. The intrigue and conspiracy that lead up to a higher authority within NYPD was suspenseful enough to keep you turning the pages as well as shocking. I do like the parallels between the captain in the story versus what happened in the TV show and still had tears when it got to that emotional part. Also, I don't want to give too much away but I will warn there is a bit of a cliffhanger. Not sure why it ended the way it did but I am eager to see what happens next.

This was more like a 2 and 1/2 stars...I mean I liked the mystery that was the meat of the story, but it had a hard time deciding what it wanted to be (romance or mystery) as there was no real interaction between the hero and heroine. And I do get that it is a series so there is a leading up to quality but looking at the descriptions for the others, it's unsure whether they actually get their HEA which is something I always want in my romances. A tad things were unbelievable like when it came out who actually did the kidnapping and thinking about how they were able to leave the clues in the notes, and Franchesca's overall naive nature got to be a bit much after awhile. I may pick up the others just to see how it all plays out but I am not rushing to the store or library to do so.
