Wow, this was... Wow. I appreciated how different this was from a lot of crime books I've read in the past. Female centric, male victims, and set in Lagos. I'm so glad I read this.
It was funny in a very dark way and super engrossing. The ending was a bit abrupt, but in the same way as other endings of suspenseful books I've enjoyed have been (think Sharp Objects, for example). The pacing is wonderful and makes for a quick read. I highly recommend it.

I don't know how to express my awe for this book. It made me a better person.
I'm trying to decide what this book is about - primarily a ghost story, obviously. The main themes are around choices made on how you live your life and how money and loneliness factor into those choices. The writing is beautiful, the characters memorable, and the "small world" and "little coincidence" moments flow well.
Such a fun and quick read. Definitely brought up some weird memories of both highschool and super religious summer camps I went to, which added to the horror.
I have mixed feelings about both the book and the author. There were parts I loved - Junot Diaz writes with sincerity and humor. And then there were parts that dragged on a little, frustrated me, and made me feel like I liked the idea of the book more than the book itself.
