This book describes who I want to be. A person who is always willing to change their mind given better evidence.
Although I am proud to call myself a feminist, a vegan, or a reader, I hope to never only support an opinion because other people in that group support it. I want to be curious and open.
Such a nice and reaffirming book with great examples and reasons why aspiring to have a scout mindset is a great thing.

A quick and informative read for everyone trying to be an ally or struggling with their own gender identity.

I picked this book up to learn about Uruguay. And I got so much more!
The story of five queer women living in a dictatorship and beyond teaches history and what it means living under oppression, what (silence) resistance can look like and how to build yourself a life, in a country that is against your existence. It tells about love, friendship, and creating your own family.
I am in awe. And I want more.

Moderate: Homophobia, Rape, Suicide

It deserves a 5, but I do not like reading rape scenes. So it is a personal 4. I think those scenes are super important for the book and the story tho! Might go back and change the rating.
Definitely one highlight of the year!
I love how it is written in Trinidadian Creole and I recommend the audiobook read by the author!

This was a tough read. Not because of the writing style but because of the content. Most of the time I did not want to believe that the events described are events that could really happen in our world. Especially to a child. It is remarkable how Ishmael Beah went through his teenage years as a boy soldier and was able to continue life after. Like many other children can. Human beings are remarkable. Some are capable of truly evil things, but so many can recover as well. I am fascinated and somehow hopeful that this world will turn out well one day.
Ishmael Beah is an amazing storyteller. He recounts events with a lot of important details and connects what he experiences with relevant anecdotes to make his points even stronger.
This book paints a dark story of Sierra Leone during the 90s as a state. It captures some remarkable and kind people well, but otherwise there is not much hope.
Now I really want to read a positive book about the country, I do not want to keep such a sad impression of Sierra Leone. One thing I know by now is that many of it's people are extremely resilient. Incredible.

I really want to read one of Isabel Allende's novels now. She is an amazing storyteller and I loved learning about her country Chile through her eyes.
Her writing brings life to the simplest of recollections. Very refreshing for a non-fiction. Or is it?
Will try to visit Chile white I am in Argentina now.

Need to retire this book from my "currently reading" shelf for some time. Will pick it up again when Mundial (world cup) starts

Pretty story about family and money. Great narrator!
Comments on this book say that some study results are reported with over confidence. So take extraordinary findings with a grain of salt.
But still the general message of this book is incredibly powerful and I am so glad I read a book on sleep. Of course, we all know that sleep is important. But this book explains why and what influences sleep even without us knowing. I think it is a very important read.
Please sleep more, people!
