I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked this book up. Let’s just say, I was not disappointed.
After the kid’s safe space, the Playroom, is compromised, they end up looking for another place to belong. We follow them across the country and meet a bunch of fun characters on the way.
Each of the kids are completely lovable with unique personalities. The art is precious and expressive (as a fellow artist, it’s inspirational too!). I love the character designs of the main characters and all the extras! There was always something interesting to look at.
The found family is great here too—they all have their own relationships with each other. I just loved watching them interact
Short anecdote: This book is relatively small--not as big as the novels I'm used to reading. When I picked it up, the first thing I thought was, "Wow, this is a really heavy book." I proceeded to tell everyone around me to hold it. Now they all think I'm nuts (even when they agreed), and I'll forever remember this book as the Really Heavy book with precious characters :D

This book was surprising. I usually don't like contemporary romance because that's all it is. Just romance, and overall cringe. The only reason I picked this book up was I've liked every other Marissa Meyer book I've read.
So, I expected some cringy teenage romance (because when a book is just about two characters falling in love there isn't much else exciting to tell). I definitely sold the Marissa Meyer short.
I *wasn't* expecting to be hit in the face by such a relatable character. Prudence was a little annoying to start, just because of the similarities between her and my own high school experience... But I really appriciate her growth over the book. And, thankfully, the story was about far more than romance--the rescue center took up a lot of the story which was great. The "karmic powers," at first, didn't seem to play all that important of a role, considering the title "Instant Karma," but it seemed as realistic as magical-ish powers can be in the real world, and I appreciated that too.
Overall I'm really happy I read this book. And I'll be dreaming of Baby Otters for weeks...

4.5/5 stars
Okay, so I didn't really have any expectations for this book. I just picked it up because the cover art was pretty. I was a little disappointed that the art was just black and white, but that lasted a whole of 2 pages until I reached the actual story.
The art is weirdly captivating. It just made the whole story more powerful. The brush strokes and dramatic shading are epic. The character designs and their expressions are just amazing. Like wow. It was hard to breathe at times, when I was captivated by the art (I sound like a broken record, but seriously...).
Aaanyway, the story was great too! Maybe after talking about the art, I'll sound unimpressed. The story was rather simple. Can't go wrong with simple, right? There were a couple things that seemed a bit underdeveloped, but maybe that's just because I wanted more details of the story. It took me a hot minute to realize the narration bubbles were pilot logs and maybe that threw me out of the story at first. But once I moved past that, I really enjoyed the story.
This was seriously a really great read. I recommend to anyone who will listen to me! I really enjoyed it. I even made it the 100th book I read in 2021 :) (worth it!)
Anyway, totally go for it! I can't wait to go back and randomly stare at the art in this book...
