I love her writing! It's fun and quirky in a way that just appeals to my constant stream of consciousness.

However the plot and characters didn't particularly do it for me.  Like I didn't dislike them, but they weren't obsession-worthy.

I really liked it!  It was painful to basically be starting fresh with the characters and worldbuilding, but at least I liked the characters we got to follow?  And the storylines and world.

also this ending was much better than EOS

Where is the line between white Michelle Williams and Britney Spears? dang near invisible y'all!  Wow! This was the perfect book to listen to after The Bell Jar.

Women's history month is heavy with the feminine ennui this year.

A surprisingly delightful YA romantasy.  One of my favorite tropes is "right person wrong time" and that may as well have been the logline for this book.  Over 1,000 years of yearning and star-crossed soulmates? What more could a girl ask for?

Not to mention there is a whole ass plot line around a bone marrow transplant.  Peripheral blood stem cells and actual bone marrow are discussed.  (I do think the allergy to general anesthesia was dumb af and only further clouds the donation process, but alas, the author got her Seven Pounds moment. 🙄)

This book was written for me!  Ultimately the third quarter dragged for me in a way that was not swoony or exciting.  There was too much "he wants to kill me and won't tell me why because he's an butthead" when really after 1000 years you'd think she'd trust and accept it.  If doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insanity... it's no wonder this girl wound up in an asylum that one time.... I SAID IT!

I understand why this is compared to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue but I think it does those things SO MUCH BETTER!  Our characters (the temu version of immortal) are curious and compassionate and get to explore so much of the world, so many cultures, languages, subcultured experiences, and bond with all sorts of people.

I enjoyed this one.  It didn't have the same magic as the first, but I think it still had the charm and characters.  Honestly for lovers being separated with one experiencing God-given amnesia I much prefer this version to the An Ember in the Ashes series.

The themes were excellent and the characters were hella brave.  The war was giving me Russia/Ukraine vibes and that really bummed me out.

Definitely recommend this duology.

This is a really charming YA/NA fantasy novel.  I found my mind gravitating to this story in my spare time and was eager to keep going.  I immediately commenced the second book in the duology upon finishing.

My favorite grand gesture ever written!!!

I really enjoyed this book, but unfortunately just didn't like the protagonist. She's the most unfunny FMC l've read in a long time.

I know I’m late to the party, but this is possibly my new all time favorite book. I’m so glad I didn’t read this in high school or even college. I’m so obsessed I’m definitely unable to adequately articulate my love of this novel. Every paragraph reminded me that I’ve never had an original thought AND that the experience of girlhood is timeless.

It was either detrimental or fundamental that I finally found my way to this novel in the early days of Trump’s second presidency AND the week I ran out of Lexapro.

So many books are either feminine and fun or depressing and heavy for the sake of being heavy. This book balanced them both while keeping its personality and quirkiness. Esther will be relatable for any former gifted-over-achieving-good girl who finds herself a race horse without a racetrack on the other side of academia.

She wrote a character that is relatable, timeless, and universal without ever once feeling cliche. She captures the character’s consciousness in a way I’ve never experienced.

I’m literally going home to reread/skim my copy and mark the hell out of it. (10/10 recommend the audiobook read by Maggie Gyllenhaal!) and now I need to read all of her poetry books and watch the film. Sylvia Plath was the OG beautifully tragic girlie (just rewatched Wicked sorry not sorry). Okay the real OG was Emily Dickinson, and fine I’ll rewatch all three seasons on AppleTV+ again.

I don’t care if this new obsession makes me basic as hell. It’s simply the best book I’ve read in a very long time. I never thought I’d be one to have “a classic” as my favorite book, but here we are.
