This series ramped up and I loved it! This is truly Callum’s book in a big way, and the political intrigue was well-crafted and fascinating. Moon throws us into this post-war reality without ever having to stop and be like, there was this war, here’s what it was about, and the way she builds here on the tidbits she left in the last book is just so well-done. I like that we’re expanding on the Scribe mythology here and I can’t wait to see where the next book takes that also.

Also I partly listened to this one in audio and Cornell Collins’ narration and separate voices for all three guys is absolutely wonderful. The Vermenian accents got a little heavy handed, but he really does great characterizations. I didn’t like Sienna Frances’ narration as much, unfortunately (I’d kill for an audiobook where I love both narrators)— she has a very specific cadence when she’s reading that gets easily repetitive. Also she does Bryce’s dialogue in this odd monotone that I found strange for the character (not sure if Collins does it as well, I don’t think he had any Bryce bits in this book). But she’s listenable, and overall it was fine.

Fully enjoyed this one. I love a reverse harem where the boyfriends are boyfriends, they all have clear presences and personalities, and I thought the twist on the big evil was nicely done. I did feel like the big evil was more told than shown for most of the book, and while I like her power, I do wonder at the scope/limitations of it, if there are any. For example could she just write "I never [did that thing]" and undo all the consequences? I assume not, but I also don't know why not.

I am very much looking forward to reading more of this series, especially delving into the characters' backgrounds.

Oh my god, I loved this so much. First of all, she full on had me going in the first half, cause I finished book one thinking the boyfriends were NOT going to be boyfriends, and I was sad about that but dealing. But I was wrong! Huzzah! But I truly spent most of both books on the edge of my seat about how it would all shake out in the end. And I loved every minute.

Also George is a fucking delight who had me cracking up the whole book. (I think all of my highlights were just George being hilarious.)

Well, I was warned about how obsessed I’d be with this one and it DID NOT disappoint! Holy shit, I loved this. And I’d write a clearer review, but I have to go start book 2 IMMEDIATELY before I lose my damn mind.

I’m utterly obsessed with this whole series. And I’m not a “second epilogues” sort of person generally, but I would happily read more whole books just about both Second Sons relationships living their lives. (But also possible future books with George or Patrick?)

Honestly I’m having a hard time leaving a legit review because I’m just like “YOUR HONOR I LOVE THEM.”

I love that every character in the series is their own clear person and the dynamics between all of them are so different, both within and outside their relationships. Absolutely delightful, and I’m completely sold on reading everything Emily Rath writes.
