An entertaining character driven lighthearted page turner about deep topics, a love letter to friendship between a straight woman and a fantastic gay man. Great story, Rachel has a distinctive voice, and I disagree that it has no plot. It definitely has a plot. And it wraps up beautifully. Brought tears to my eyes. Will keep my eye out for this author.
Unlikable protagonist, smattering of anti-white racism, boring robots. From what I understand the ending isn't great, which was my problem with Binti. DNF 14%.
Entertaining narrative nonfiction, something I love even more than art, and I really love art. Can't wait to read more by this author, especially the one about the hermit in Maine, where I am from. I really appreciated Finkel's breakdown of his time with Breitwieser and how he got the story at the end of the book.
I am so glad I went in totally blind. I did not read any reviews and not even the book blurb. This isn't brilliant literature, it's just a good story. I wish there was more of the Atlas part but I can understand in a literary sense why the plot kept it to a minimum. Overall enjoyable, but I don't think I'll read any more of her books. There are some really funny "bad reviews" on here, but don't look because almost all contain spoilers. I can both understand why it's reviled and why it's popular (to say the library copy I waited 10 months for is dogeared doesn't begin to describe it).
Loved it! Devoured in one night. I loved the subject matter and Spark's unusual storytelling. Her clever insights into human nature, both male and female, are a delight!
I don't see why this book doesn't have a higher rating; however the reviews with the most likes are the 5-stars, and the ones and twos are of the "I didn't get it, this wasn't for me" variety.

I don't think I understand the meaning of the sentence "this concedes nothing to modernism..." (to paraphrase). All the houses look like modernist businesses to me. However the architects/authors did convey appreciation for Maine. I live here and have seen some beautiful old houses...it was interesting to see the interiors of the expensive newer ones, even if a few of the ones in this book are somewhat ugly on the outside and alienating inside.
