Listened to this on audio book and the narration was excellent. The characters were well fleshed out and the story was much more interesting than I thought it would be, albeit also more violent than I was anticipating. All in all, I'm eagerly anticipating jumping into the rest of the series (and I owe a 13yo an apology for not reading them sooner!)

This book was phenomenal. I couldn't put it down. It had the thrill of a Harry Potter book without the high levels of -isms (racism, sexism, homophobia. transphobia, etc). It doesn't dumb down hard things for kids and does trauma SO WELL, as well as rewriting your story when your past doesn't fit you anymore. Cannot wait for the second book!

This book is phenomenal. I have loved Amanda Lovelace's work since stumbling onto "the princess saves herself in this one" three years ago, when the grief poetry in it was exactly what I needed after my mom died. It's always been my favorite of hers. But this? This is battling for that top spot. The empowerment messages are so needed.

WOW. This book completely blew me away. The first was amazing. The second was...iconic. A book like this comes along only so often, one that blends so many important themes and handles them so masterfully. One that is almost prophetically timely for the generation and time we are in. Fucking. Wow. Everyone should read this book. Every.One.
