Wow. This book, while totally outside of my literary comfort zone and with language/violence way more intense than I usually encounter, was so eye-opening. It made me angry that Dominican Republic history is so skirted in school. It made me want to learn more. It made me feel guilty for having not had previous curiosity, but encouraged me to keep searching. The story and the characters were amazing. The social commentary was biting. The history lesson was needed.
I laughed. I cried. I raged. I wanted to Gibbs-slap Hamilton more than a few times. And pulverize Jefferson, Madison, and Burr. And I SO BADLY wish I could have met Eliza when she was in her 90s, having lived through so much history. Amazing biography. Definitely worth the read after listening to the Hamilton musical on repeat for a couple weeks. <3 Now to find a good Eliza biography....
