Holy moly, this was a book. It started as a cute love story. Added a bunch of trauma and dealing with trauma and homophobia in the middle. Ultimately was still a love story. But very intense at times. But so, so good. I truly enjoyed the journey. 

This is an incredible window into LGBTQ elder lives. 

This is a fun romp, but not without its difficulties in the modern day. I forgot how much of the story line revolved around colonialism happening in the background (Pippi's father got washed overboard and essentially took over an island to be a "cannibal king," which is a story told in the original volume, but in this volume, the story becomes more entrenched & verified by adults in an unsettling way). 

This was a fun read, and I learned a LOT about China, both history and mythology. I loved the characters and the story was really cool. It definitely kept me on my toes. And I thought the blending of video games and mythology was a cool concept in the modern era. 

This was an interesting read. Not necessarily my usual fair, and at times was challenging to stay engaged in the writing style, but I am glad I stuck with it. It's a good exploration of Chinese immigrants in America in the 1940s-1950s.
