After working away at it for several weeks I finally finished this novel. It had been over a year since I’d read the first two and honestly I had forgotten how politically complicated and character dense these books are - it took me a while to catch back on to the backstory. I loved the first two and zoomed through them, but I struggled with this one. Partly the shifted character focus onto Joaquim and Mariana hurt it for me. Nice characters. Nice. Nice is a little (very) boring.

Reading this aloud to my oldest child was truly a special and wonderful experience!

An extremely raw and honest personal account of depression and anxiety, including her first ever sexual encounter, which was with a sex worker (though far from gruesome, just honest). This is excellent. Hard to read and hear her hurt at some points, but her shocking willingness to be so vulnerable endears you.

An excellent follow on to her first book, this “journal” is again a surprisingly honest, painful account of her life. Success isn’t a cure-all and she is still dealing with the numbness of depression, the feeling of loneliness, and her family relationships. She is far from perfect, nor does she pretend to be. In her own real life narrative she’s equal parts the protagonist and the antagonist.

I got halfway, couldn’t get myself finish.

I legitimately laughed out loud and had to gasp-back tears through out this book. This is an honest book and a personal journey. This is not your standard “famous person writes a memoir collection of essays” though there are certainly chapters that focus in on parts of her life, it’s overall a story about a road trip from New York to LA after some challenging personal events. Can’t recommend this enough to every 30-something woman in my life.

Max and I listened to this on our road trip to and from Kearney. I recall and love this series from my childhood. It was the perfect compliment for our pioneer village and museum visits!

As always this series is really fun - I was a little disappointed by the final showdown after so many of her books building up the crossroads. I like characters and it was fun to be with them again. Novella at the end is great too!

Plane reading at its finest.

This book is a quick, easy, fantasy read. Lots of adult jokes with almost no adult content. Author is still figuring out storytelling but this was fun.
