i'm making a mid-read prediction:

asher
knows that gemma and wren are not the same person, and has known since wren gave him her phone number or later. he started to realized the truth and maybe lies about still talking to gemma. he just genuinely likes wren and is trying to get her to do fun things and go out of her comfort zone.

after reading:

okay so... i was right, kinda.

i really liked this book up until the
plot twist of ash posting things online about wren. not asking permission is one thing, but not deleting hate comments, keeping it from her, and barely defending your girlfriend is a whole other thing.
i stopped liking ash after this. no matter how good or pure his intentions were. this is what knocked it down from 5 stars to 4.

in every romance, there's always a betrayal. And as a romance reader, i know that they will get together at the end. it's a feature of the genre that i love. but also it becomes soul crushing when it means forgiving almost everything someone did that hurt you. it's okay to be hurt and to move on. maybe that's why i don't love adult romances, too many second chances are given out. this is kind of a tangent. this book didn't do anything that bad, i'm just starting to realized something about how i like my books. also, i clearly don't love these characters, because if i did, i would've probably forgiven
ash like wren did.

the main character is so whiney and pathetic. i stopped the audiobook when she "killed" her dad  :)

the more "enemies to lovers" that i read with
a secret "he's always loved her"
, the more okay i am with it.

the references to modern movies and songs were not my favorite or enjoyable at all, but i pushed through and i'm glad that i did.

overall, very cute and just the right amount of angst. i really find it easy for me to forgive teenage angst compared to those found in adult romances. so i shall continue reading YA romances instead. also, the audiobook narrators for YA just do it better.

the ending where the truth of what actually happened 12 years ago happened was good. that's it.
