I thoroughly enjoyed how much explanation of the explorations went into this book. It sort of felt like it could have been an intro to smut book and I love that this exists.
Okay, so the book definitely could benefit from another round of editing but the story was so much fun. Its toxic and full of red flags, but like....aren't we here for that on purpose sometimes? During the first book, I didn't know how I was going to fall in love with these two but I sure did!
This review feels a bit complicated to write because I was able to lose myself in the story and I loved the characters and the plot, but the writing just isn't quite top-tier. It feels a bit unpolished. However, I will be reading more of Stephanie Archer. The book is a nice quick read with decent smut and sometimes that's really all we need.
I was honestly getting frustrated with HOW OFTEN everyone was telling them to try dating each other. I like a more show not tell type thing, ya know? Like, lets make it a little less beating us over the heads with it.
The dialogue and plot felt unpolished and amateur. I never connected with the characters and never got involved enough in the story to lose myself. Mostly, I felt annoyed.
I've only read two other Meghan Quinn books and while I didn't super love those books, they were both quite spicy. This, however, was not very spicy at all. The story is slow and sweet and while I do think it is my favorite of hers so far, I just don't fall deeply in love with the characters.
Not gonna lie, I just expected more from this book. To see so many people rave about it and it being as long as it is... it just didn't live up to the hype for me. It was fiiiiiine and I don't mind that I read it but now that the book is over I'm spending more time thinking about Lucian and Sloane than I ever did thinking about Knox and Naomi.
This one was just okay. I have no real feelings either way about it. I'm sitting here even trying to choose what tropes or standard romance novel things happened and I'm realizing that really not much HAPPENS at all. Very low drama, zero angst, very little spice.
Also, the male narrator's female voices made me cringe.

Literally, the only thing I remember about this book is all the sex and honestly, I'm not even mad about it. We've got a golden retriever dude and a quieter dude and they share her but not each other and bonus points because both men have filthy mouths. Just don't go searching too hard for a complex plot or lots of character development in this one....it's not there.
I'm not a huge fantasy reader, but as we move into fall I do enjoy incorporating some witchy/paranormal reads into the fold. This is a You've Got Mail retelling (with a scene that was remade right from the movie and made me giggle) with sort of "intro to fantasy books" vibes. It wasn't too much or too overwhelming and I appreciate that as I tend to get lost in all the aspects of creating a new world. It's pretty low on the spice, but there was definitely a moment that clutched at my heartstrings and saved the book for me. Books have to have spice or heart or I just can't get onboard.
