I'm convinced that booktok is obsessed with Chapter 55 because we're all mostly a generation who watched 10 Things I Hate About You and fell in love with Heath Ledger over a game of rolling in the hay with paint-filled balloons.

I'm so in love with the Winston Brothers that I was sucked in by the very idea of this book. I love a female MC finding her way and stepping outside her comfort zone, but I was also really hoping for some spice and we got basically none.

I do not remember the specifics of this book (I read it months ago and didn't review at the time), however I do remember tension and spice being super fun!

Aptly named, because this book RUINED ME. I finished reading this book and stared off into space for a solid 10 minutes. I could no longer process thoughts or feelings and was a shell of a human. That being said, I will continue forcing all my friends to read this.

This book is mostly forgettable.

My favorite book in the series! Cassian is my favorite type of male character. He puts in the work to help women help themselves and tries to push them to be their best, but yet he gets protective and possessive at times...and damn do I love that combination. This book is Nesta's redemption arc and I'm here for it. Also, have definitely bookmarked the spicy scenes in audible. 10/10 will be re-listening to those many, many times...

Re-read 8/23/23:
Gods, this book is good.

Definitely not my favorite Penny Reid book, but there were (as always) some great moments. I was never in danger of not finishing the book or the series, but I just never fell head over heels in love here.

Oofda. This book WRECKED me. I don't know how Abby does it, but this book is somehow gut-wrenching AND sweet AND funny. This shouldn't be allowed to exist in such perfection, and yet here it is.

I read this book 4 months ago and I can't stop thinking about it. I immediately read the other two in the series and have since re-read both of those a second time. I just can't put myself through the emotional turmoil of this book a second time. But yet, I want every single romance reader I know to read this book. I will not stop recommending it.

Spoiler Infertility and Death

“I fell in love with you the day that I met you, and then I fell in love with the person you remembered you are. I got to fall in love with you twice. That’s— that’s magic. You’re the first thing I’ve believed in since— since I don’t even remember, okay, you’re— you’re movies and destiny and every stupid, impossible thing, and it’s not because of the fucking train, it’s because of you. It’s because you fight and you care and you’re always kind but never easy, and you won’t let anything take that away from you. You’re my hero, Jane. I don’t care if you think you’re not one. You are.”
