It was a really touching story (and I love Wills humor!), but unfortunatly the end was spoiled for me, so I was just reading towards it. I have resprect for Lou, and I do understand Will and his point of view but I also don't completely get it. I think, no I hope, my point of view will be different in such a situation, but you can never know that of course.
It was nice to read a whole book in a weekend. But i dod not cry, I think because the ending was spoiled. Such a shame. Stupid library with its one-sentence discription of book two when I made the reservation for that XD my bookclub reads this duology this month, and because I wanted to make sure to get it on time I already made a reservation.. which spoiled this whole book XD

This was a really nice story to read! Not as soppy as some contemporaries, but still really cute and fun. I love how everything is not-perfect, a bit messy and confusing sometimes, but that is just how life can be so I really liked that in this book.
About the ending: Of course it is fun that the ending is very happy for everyone and everyone is partying together etcetera. But, I would have loved the ending even more if some people could part from each other and that it is still alright. You don't have to end up in one big happy group to have good closure over a story or over things that happened.
But I have to admit that I really like those endings because that is how life can be as well and I think that that would have suited this book even more, but this is not a bad ending and I think most people prefer this ending over 'mine' :)

Eindelijk pak ik de boeken van Chinouk Thijssen eens op. ik volg haar op social media en op YouTube, en ben fan. Ik hoorde dat ze later deze maand op een event is waar ik ook heen ga, en ik realiseerde me ineens dat ik haar boeken nog niet gelezen had! gelukkig had de bieb ze allebei.
Van dit boek zijn er twee edities: deze, de volwassen thriller, en een ya-versie. Inmiddels heb ik van Chinouk de verschillen en overeenkomsten tussen beide edities gehoord, en wat ik zo hoor is de ya-versie ook zo leuk en goed :) Wel jammer dat mijn bieb alleen deze editie had!
Dit boek krijgt van mij 4*. Ik geef een thriller meestal 3*, dan vind ik hem gewoon leuk. Deze vond ik toch wel even extra goed en dat komt volledig door het einde. Dat vond ik een heel goed einde, vond hem goed bij het boek passen maar had hem toch niet aan zien komen. Ik raad hem zeker aan!

Laat je niet misleiden door de cover! Het is geen YA fantasy, het is een YA thriller. En een goede! Ik ben nu echt officieel fan van Chinouk ^^ Zo leuk dat ik haar overmorgen ga ontmoeten! (Ja, daarom wilde ik ook dit boek nog snel even lezen haha whoops)
Wat ik zo goed vindt aan dit boek is dat je het hoofdpersonage zo goed begrijpt. je voelt als lezer het onheil in de lucht hangen, maar toch snap je alle stapjes die gezet worden en alle beslissingen die worden genomen. Erg knap gedaan.
Het is een goede thriller maar ook eentje waar je best wat van kan leren - dat niet alles in het echte leven altijd net zo gaat als in boeken en films, dat er tig variaties op mogelijk zijn. Ja, dat kun je uit een boek leren, hoe ironisch dat ook klinkt ;) Door op deze manier over dit onderwerp te schrijven kan het bij veel meisjes van deze leeftijd wel een extra bewustwording creëren, zonder belerend te zijn. Je staat namelijk voor je gevoel in Ivy's schoenen en begrijpt haar, en dat is knap gedaan.
Ook Chinouk's andere boek vond ik 4* waard, en ze heeft laatst bekend gemaakt dat er een nieuw boek van haar aankomt en die ga ik zeker lezen, nu al zin in!

This could have been an interesting read. This book has all kinds of fields in it, math, medicine, cosmology.. I really like that. It is a collection of articles about the subject of nothing. Yes, you can write a lot about nothing.
The order of the chapters is a bit confusing at first. I expected a chapter per field, but they explain at the beginning of the book that they have chosen to do it a different way. The first chapter is about beginnings, and it has something about the big bang and about brainresearch.
If you read a whole chapter in this book in one sitting, it is a bit chaos. But if you read it an article at the time, the order makes this book easier to read than if they had devoted a whole chapter to on field of research. In that case, I would sooner be tempted to skip something, because I've read enough about brain research already, for example. That is not the case now. So I do see the perks of this, but I'm not a fan of it because the feeling of chaos overrules the surprises you get because you've read something you wouldn't have read otherwise.
And than I have an issue with the writing. Most of the articles are interesting, but sometimes I lost what I was reading about. It is a bit all over the place. Sometimes I was even wondering what I've just read. It is in a particular way good because there is interesting stuff in it, but it didn't felt like an amazingly read I've learned a lot from, somehow. It doesn't endure.
It just feels badly written and thus it is hard to read. Maybe this is because of the translation, I dont know, so I do recommend if you want to read this, to read the original English version. I think that is better because it are articles fro New Scientist and that is usually very well written!

What a briljant little book full of life lessons and a course to a happy way of viewing life. Lovely in it's simplicity about such a complex subject as overal happiness. In my top 3 of all-time favorite books!
Het is een paar jaar oud en voelt links en rechts dus wat verouderd aan, had tijdlozer gekund, maar dat doet niet af aan de boodschap die kraakhelder naar voren komt: er is altijd een ander verhaal. De media hebben een perspectief, wijzelf hebben een perspectief, en juist een verhaal buiten dat perspectief is het, nee, een verhaal dat het vertellen waard is. Mooi boek als je in de journalistiek zit, of als je 'het nieuws' beu bent. Opent je ogen voor de wereld buiten het journaal en de krant.
Een heel actueel onderwerp, zeker met al het nieuws rondom de vluchtelingen. interessante verhandeling, eens een andere kijk dan wat we iedere dag via tv en krant binnen krijgen. Zeker een aanrader om deze maand nog te halen bij je boekhandel voor 4,95, zeker als je iemand bent die het nieuws bijhoudt. Gewoon, voor een andere kijk op zaken.
Het boek is dan wel heel itnerssant, het zijn wel vrij lange hoofdstukken voor de schrijfstijl. Niet heel erg, want in twee uurtjes had ik het wel uit. Ook is het moeilijk om een opbouwende rode draad door het verhaal te vinden. Nou is dat ook niet heel belangrijk, want datgene dat er geschreven is, is wel heel interessant. Maar daardoor wel maar een 3*.

Dit boek is een echte aanrader voor de freelancende journalist! Alles staat er in, over je administratie, de belastingdienst en hoe het werkt met opdrachtgevers.
Sommige dingen wist ik al, maar het is super om een boek te hebben waar alles overzichtelijk bij elkaar staat. Handig naslagwerk ook voor als ik ergens mee zit of tegen aan loop!

This book starts of a bit slow and hard to read - but hey it is about nuclear fusion so I was not expecting a easy read. I was not expecting to read so much about the atomic bombs at the start of this book, but it is logical - it is where the idea of nuclear fusion starts.
This book takes you through the history of the nuclear fusion research in a chronological way. I feel the book is not totally objective everywhere, closer to the end it gets clearer why. But I did not mind that a lot, I've read this to understand the scientific process of nuclear fusion better. I've achieved that goals, and I've learned a lot about the politics and egos involved.
This book shows you science is more than just that single breakthrough. It is about a lot more, and sometimes things go not according to plan. This book shows you that is all part of the process.
