odettebrethouwer's Reviews (1.95k)

This review is in Dutch because this book is only in Dutch.

I did not expect to even like this book. I expected a lot of over the top horny sex because of the sex. But it was nothing like that and this book suprised me in a really pleasant way. Oh gosh that sounds awful and that is NOT what I mean XD

You may ask yourself why I've read it if I expected to dislike it, and that is purely to fulfill the 2016 reading challenge from my bookclub Books Ever After. In order to do that, I had to read a New Adult book. I'd already decided it would be this one, I don't know why, I guess because I don't hate the cover? I saw it on the TBR of this month of a Goodreads friend of mine, Shannon, so I decided to also read it this month, because I knew I had someone to share this story with.

What I like so much about this book: There are multiple things that I like.

First of all, I really like the main character and her way of thinking. I also like the character development in this book a lot. Not just hers, also his'. It is done in a way that is slowly but steady, that you noticed they've changed but that it hard to pinpoint when. Just like in real life.

I also like the sex in this book. This is a major and important thing in this review, because this is the first time ever that I've liked the sex in the book. Usually, it is sex because of the sex. But in this book, there are multiple good point to the sex:
* It is slowly. Not all the way the first time kiss. I like that.
* They use protection! (this is no spoiler, the book is New Adult for a reason. There is sex in it.)
* All the things they do and how they do it contribute to the story and to the character development.
* And I have to admit, the sex is very well-written.

I also liked it that there is more story than sex in this book, but there were a couple of times that I'd liked a bit less sex, especially more towards the end of the book. But overall I really enjoyed reading this book because it is just so smoothly written! It reads like a high speed train.

Oh. And. That ending. OMG! I was really suprised by that, and I've just walked around the house three times with my hands to the sides of my face like that emoticon that looks like The Scream. I want book 2 and I want it now. Oh wait huge TBR. I want book 2 in August. I'm stuck.

I loved this book! I've read this in one day (it's 50 minutes past midnight but hey). First day of the big Books Ever After Readathon and one book down whoohoo!

Let's talk about this awesome book
This book is so NOT suffering from second book syndrome, how awesome!

The story grabbed me in the previous book and held me tight. There is some love in this book but it is logical. Unexpected things happen that throw your expectations upside down and gosh

This book is the perfect combination of a bit scifi in a thriller for ya with a bit of lovestory. Will be reading the third book really soon!

Plot or Character Driven: Plot

WOW!

----

This is amazingly freakingly good! This is the best YA ScifFi possible.

Yes, it has a love interest, but it is not a triangle and it really ands to the story. About adding to the story: can we talk about how this book looks on the inside? It is one really big file, and it looks like it. The typographic really adds to the story, it makes reading this book an event.

In the beginning, the fact that I was reading a file needed to grow on my. I was afraid to miss details, to focus on the wrong thing or something. But of course, the file is written by the authors, so the storyline gets clear by itself. So if you start this book, don't be afraid when you do not understand anything or feel like you don't know how to read it, just go with the flow of the book and it will grab you eventually ;)

I'm quite late to the party with this book. I've started it 2 months ago, but I did not wanted it to be over. Also, as soon as holiday season started, I'd put this book down because I did not bring it with me (it is heavy..), and between holidays I haven't picked it back up because I know how addictive this book can be.. I've picked it back up this week :) When you put the time back to back, I've read this book in the time span of a week or so? XD It is a big fat book (599 pages), but it reads a lot faster at some point because of the typographic.

I love it, just read it if you haven't done that already or you will miss out on something great.

For the people knowing me in IRL, yes you can borrow my copy if you are carefull with it but duh, but if multiple people want to borrow it (and I'm pushing this book in the face of my boyfriend and dad as well), first one Wwho grabs it from my shelves is the first to borrow it etc. :P

I noticed I'd rated this book 4* and I was like, why? I've read my review again and I was like, way? XD I love this book so much and I recommend it to a lot of people so I've changed my rating to 5* because that suits my feelings about this book better.

What a beautiful coming of age story! I like the girlpower, the doing something by yourself because you want to, no matter what other people may think about it. It is very confronting because you instantly think the same - should she go on that trip alone? And why do you think that? Because she is a girl? Would you think the same if it was a boy? This is what is wrong with society.

And than we have the story. It is not predictable, I like that. I also like the character development in this story a lot. Trying to find your inner self, staying true to it, falling back in old habbits, getting yourself back toghether and going on in the direction you want to go.

And I think the ending fits the book perfectly. I always love it when an ending suits the story. And I like it a lot that this book is like nothing I've read before, because it is about hiking.

I highly recommend this book! If it wasn't for me being a BlossomBooks ambassador this year, I don't know if I would have picked this book up. I probably would think it was nothing for me because I don't like to hike, but it turned out you don't have to like hiking to like this book. Maybe it is even better, because this book will give you the opportunity to fall in love with something new.

I will defenitly go hiking with my boyfriend when we go back to Iceland, which we will do some day, for sure. I fell in love with that country, and reading this book will only make me go back to a place so empty, so full of beauty and nothing.

Took this with me on a long trainride, read 3/4 of it, finished it the same night because I was afraid I would not finish it if I put it away. This is so predictable, and the things that are not predictable are so unlikely.. Did not really enjoyed reading this, bummer :(

This book was SO MUCH FUN to read! Love it, and so glad there is a second book! This is book is for lovers over Bridget Jones, it has a bit of that feel.

This whole book is only her e-mails. This would not be interesting nowadays, but this book is 9 years old. it is from the time we used e-mails to chat, in stead of WhatsApp or Facebook or whatever. Nowadays, this book would be her WhatsApp. So, you get all her chatting with her colleague, friends and family. And she chats a lot.

You do know everything that happens in her life, because if something happened over the weekend, she tells her friends or colleague about it, so you are not missing a single thing. Sometimes this is a bit forces, but only a couple of times, and that does not bother you in those 700+ pages of email! It also reads really fast because the pages are not filled like a normal book.

I'm really glad I've read this YA classic with a bookclub on whatsapp! I wouldn't have picked it up already if it wasn't for them, and I really enjoyed reading this.

Of course, this book has many elements you see in other books as well. But this is the first, so that is something to consider.

I managed to keep free from spoilers of this series since I haven't read or seen them before, and I'm quite happy with that. I went into this completely blank, and I expected the hunger games game to be spread in the 3 books. But it wasn't, that was a nice surprise. And now I'm quite curious to the next book - we will be reading that next month :)

What I liked about this book it that the suspense is real. I really felt with Katniss. The caracter plots are great as well.
SpoilerI'm still not sure how much I trust Peeta and how much if what he shows is real, I like that a lot.
I also like the basic plotline of this book, the games. it is an interesting setting for such a book.

I am going to watch the movies as well, but only after I've finished the books, because I do not want to keep seeing actors in my head while reading the next two books.

I really enjoyed reading this book a lot because of the story and the people, but somehow it did not felt like 5* for me. Maybe if this was the first YA I've read it would have been, and/or if I reread it now, but now it just does not feel like it, sadly :( So these 4* are my reading experiences. But I do KNOW this book is the first in its genre and it really well written, so if you ask me what I thought of the book I would say 5*, but the reading experience didn't matched that completely. Does this makes sense? :)

This was a cool YA thriller. I enjoyed reading it, but I notice I can't really say much about this.. Not my best review, sorry XD

After reading [b:Hunter & Pearl|25823072|Hunter & Pearl|Joss Stirling|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1435652091s/25823072.jpg|41924725] and liking that a bit less than this (but still 3*), I can describe better how I experienced reading this book.

I really like the element in this book that you are thinking when will she find out, and that you want to know how this thing they are investigating turns out.

I also really liked it that he is really nerdy and she liked him for that.

But even there are many things to like, this book felt not really special to me. It is nicely written and all that, but it was a light read and I didn't really connect with the characters that much, somehow. I expected more of this writer because some loving reviews from friends, but it just felt like a ok book.

I really enjoyed this book! I'f you like the Talon serie bij kagawa, I highly recommend this series! it is finished, 3 books, which is quite nice as well because you don't have to wait for sequels :) it is nicely writen and an easy read.

I like the idea of this story (especially if you keep in mind that this series is older than the Talon series). I do feel a love triangle coming in the next book. I really like Will in this book, I might be having a little crush..
