I genuinely enjoyed this read. It’s heavily inspired by Game of Thrones, which led to me easily spotting upcoming plot twists and reveals, but I still enjoyed the story. The characters are vibrant and unique. The world-building and magic system is incredibly interesting. The narration of the audiobook is top tier. I will definitely be picking up the sequel next year.

My one complaint is that both the MMC and FMC sleep with other parties in order to try to forget their heartache. I don’t love this trope.

Two books in and I can confidently say that I adore this series! I love the pacing. A short 150 page book encompasses several years, which allows the characters to develop over time without painfully drawing things out. It’s such a wonderful way to enjoy a story. The characters are so sweet and pure. I love how different they are from the couple from the first book. I can’t wait to read more!

Hot and cold over this one. The story was somewhat enjoyable and I liked the character interactions towards the end.

The first 60% was insufferable to get through. I would have dropped it if not for following the FairyLoot readalong. The character interactions were god awful cringe. These characters are supposed to be in their late teens, but act like they’re middle schoolers. Cara, the protagonist, is the absolute worst. She is incredibly stuck up and annoying and has zero concern for how her actions affect others.

The addition of the third traveling companion felt like a half-baked afterthought. She faced no development and her appearance was just too far-fetched of a coincidence to feel real. In the end, she served zero purpose. It felt like the author thought “hey, this character idea sounds neat” and tossed her in there without building the story around her. Her storyline didn’t even end up tying into the main couple’s storyline at all. She didn’t add anything to the story and could have easily been left out with very small rewrites.

I’m also annoyed at just how many loose ends there are. There will obviously be a second book, despite being marketed as a stand-alone and there being zero announcements about a sequel. So I get that this will be an ongoing series, but it’s frustrating that the main plot wraps up so nicely without answering a bunch of questions.

Mmm nostalgia. Like every other child of the 2000s, I devoured these books in middle school. Now rereading them in my mid 20s, I am enjoying them even more. The stories are fast-paced and gripping. I am very much looking forward to getting to the books that were not yet written during my first read-through more than a decade ago.

Even better than the first book; although I do miss Ravenpaw after his departure in the last book. I am so impressed by the way these authors are able to navigate such complex personal topics such as love, loyalty, and loss while maintaining the lighthearted storytelling of a children’s series.

This graphic novel was not yet published during my first read-through of this series, although it takes place concurrently with Into the Wild. I felt this was a great expansion of the story and of Nightpelt’s character. Experiencing Brokenstar’s tyranny firsthand instead of hearing of it through Yellowfang was incredibly interesting.

I’ve become deeply invested in this world once again. So many plot points that the series has been building towards so far develop in this book. I am so heartbroken over the tragic ends of certain characters, but it definitely added to the story.
