I remember when this book was first read to me in grade school. I loved it! Roald Dahl definitely came up with a classic. I’ve read and reread it over the years and it never gets old. I love sharing this book with friends and their families. It’s just a fun classic. It could be that I’ve always had a soft spot for foxes and good books

I was first introduced to The Phantom Tollbooth in sixth grade. Our teacher would read out loud to us from different books after lunch. The Phantom Tollbooth was one of these. As a fan of all things fantasy from a young age, my love of The Phantom Tollbooth was inevitable. Who wouldn’t want to be Milo and find a way to a fairytale land dropped right into their bedroom? I’m still looking for my way into one of those places be it through a mirror, a rabbit hole, a wardrobe, or a mysterious tollbooth.

I think this is a book that should make a come back. In a time when people are used to having everything at their fingertips and having desires met at the click of a button, The Phantom Tollbooth can help us all remember that words have value, time should not be wasted, and without rhyme and reason wisdom will suffer. If anyone ever tells you they’re bored or don’t know what to do with themselves, hand them a copy of this book and help them to rediscover the magic of the everyday.

A criticism of post WWII Soviet politics, a powerful and well written allegory. Orwell was sure that his audience knew just exactly who and what Animal Farm was about. I’ve read this book several times and it remains a glimpse into history that people should not take lightly. It might be a representation of history through the use of talking animals but in it you can clearly see that those who cannot remember the past are destined to repeat it.
Animals on Manor Farm rebel against their mistreatment and abuse by their human owners, fueled by a future described to them by charismatic animal leaders. But as time passes, the grass is not as green as was promised and while all animals are equal, they are told that some are more equal than others.

When I first picked up this book as a kid, I didn’t know that it was written as a companion piece for a TV mini series. I saw a castle on the cover and the words “Do you believe in magic?” and that was all I needed to know.
Set in a land where are the fairytales you’ve heard are true, The 10th Kingdom is an adventure for anyone. Who wouldn’t love to be transported to a place like that? It’s a fun, face paced read that combines the whimsy of a magical land with a realistic reaction from an average, unmagical person dropped in the middle of a fairytale. They have trouble embracing the magic and our leading lady refuses the be the damsel in distress. As for our favorite fairytale characters, Happily Ever After was less permanent than they thought.
