novellie's Reviews (522)

Taking my overall rating down to a 3 but I think this definitely sits more at a 3.5 for me.

I reread this for BookQuest and sadly it felt a little more 'meh' this time around. I think Lancelot and Guinevere are definitely my favorite characters but Arthur really doesn't experience any sort of character growth until the very end in my opinion which is unfortunate. The plot was interesting, though it was a bit predictable the first time I read it so of course that didn't change with a reread. I'm intrigued to see where the second book of this series goes and definitely feel that it has a ton of potential with both plot and character relationships! I would particularly like for a certain f/f relationship to be explored but I'm not sure it will be. A girl can dream though!

V good, super interesting and fun read even though I've seen the movie - ending left me wanting more though

This will forever be one of my favorites in the series.

I'll give this a 1.5. Nothing more.

In concept, this is a really cool book. The way that It is handled and the horror behind It is really actually quite fascinating and enjoyable to read about. That said, I have so many more issues with this book than I do things that I enjoyed.

The blatant misogyny and disgusting manner in which Beverly, the only female main character in the book mind you, left me uncomfortable at best and physically having to walk away from the book at worst. I do understand that "things were different back then! King is just being true to the time period" which seems to be the defense that so many people spring to, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy the only girl in the book being portrayed as a sexual object for the men 95% of the time. She had the potential to be so much more, but instead was just reduced down to her gender at any opportunity.

Other things that left me uncomfortable? The sheer volume of slurs used (same defense as above is often cited, to which I still say that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it), and the amount that I had to read about children engaging in various sexual acts or thoughts.

Like I said the concept of the plot is really cool and I can see why so many people are drawn to this in depth exploration of fear and how it affects kids and grownups in their own way, but for me this was just an overwritten chore of a story that could have been told in 400 pages, not 1100+.

I'm willing to give King another chance (I've heard good things about The Shining which I think will be the next thing I read from him), but my time with It has left me exhausted and not in the mood to attempt another one of his novels for a while.

Holy shit this was so fucking wild and good FRTC

I definitely think I liked it more this time around. I'm not sure if that was because it was a reread or because the writing style didn't bother me nearly as much since I listened to it on audiobook. Either way I thoroughly enjoyed this but Billy is the only redeemable man in this book jfc Joseph and Pietyr need to be put down

Honestly this was probably a 2.5

I should know by now that magical realism just isn't the genre for me. I was confused for a majority of the time and this level of whimsy is just lost on me. Plus there seemed to be so much build up for a very resolution which left me feeling majorly disappointed.
