This was so cute and sweet, a really great friends to lovers story with a super slow burn, but when things heat up it’s for sure worth the wait. I loved that Cal and Grace built such a strong foundation with a really amazing friendship before they crossed the line and decided to be more than friends. There’s some angst too, Grace and Cal both have some darkness in their pasts and they way they were both supportive and sweet with each other was just too good. They really handled their relationship with care and I appreciated that. Cal’s little sister, Maddie was a total doll and Cal was soooo protective of her and such an amazing big brother to her. Overall a really beautiful and tender love story that I really enjoyed.
If you’re looking for some spice in your life this one was super hot 🥵 Somehow it was my first read by the author but in 2024 I’ll be reading her backlist cause I really liked this one! When I tell you it was spicy I’m serious, sooo sexy but it’s not all smut, definitely plenty of substance too. It’s a fast little read too, under 300 pages and I read it in just a couple sittings because I was so invested in Raegan and Wes story. Tropes included age gap, boss/employee, and billionaire and they were all executed to perfection!
If a thriller explores toxic female friendships I’m always gonna read it so that’s all I needed to know before I started this one. I also have a good track record going with the author, I enjoyed her two previous books, but I will say her previous ones were slightly better for me than this one. BUT! This is still worth a read in my opinion because a good thriller is getting harder and harder to come by anymore. Anyway, the college setting was strong for me here as well as the aforementioned female friend group with young women who were well drawn and characterized by the author. There are some really good twists too that I didn’t totally see coming, so overall this was another solid read from a trusted author.
I had a blast with this one, it’s definitely one of the better thrillers I’ve read lately and I finished it in less than 24 hours, which is always a sign that a book worked well for me. The thing that stood out the most to me here was the unique narrator who at times speaks directly to the reader giving it such an intimate feeling as if I was listening to a friend spill their secrets. And the secrets were juicy and addictive, and then the whole time I’m trying to figure out if Elliot is a reliable narrator or not? It’s broken up into five acts with big reveals at the end of each making it really difficult to put down. I found this to be clever and twisty and the little nod to The Silent Patient was subtle and sly yet fun to put together. You may need to suspend some disbelief but overall this one is worth it.
