I know so many of you are rom com book fans but what about rom com movies? Before I was a romance reader I was a romance movie watcher and this history of the rom com movie was so much fun. It goes back and highlights some of the most beloved movies of the past forty plus years and you get behind the scenes info into the making of the movies and more. It was super nostalgic and just overall a delight, there were lots of great details about some of my favorite movies that I had never heard before that made me want to rewatch asap. If you’ve been a fan of these movies from the eighties all the way up to today this was fun and left me in a good mood.
slow-paced
I rarely read YA thrillers but this got me with this 👇🏻
Best friends Syd, Rain, and Brie grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in the stifling California desert, desperately wishing for a way out.
In the end, each of them will escape—but not in the way they expect. One will do it by dying, another by lying, a third by taking the fall. A deadly fire is set two weeks before the end of their senior year of high school and nothing will ever be the same.
What specifically got me was the dying, lying and taking a fall part, SOLD! So I liked this one ok but didn’t love it, and I know I’m not the target audience here but I think even my younger self would’ve had some issues here. First it was a super slow burn, like very slow buildup and as much as I keep trying to have patience with these types of thrillers it just ends up annoying me, like get to the point already. But on the other hand I thought the writing was strong and the characters were well developed, as much as I can’t relate to a group of teenaged girls I felt like actual teenagers definitely would. There was also something mesmerizing about the atmosphere of this one as it’s set in a dry and super hot California desert town and the author had a lot to say about class and money issues. As far as plot goes this was decent for me, I did guess what would happen before but it was clever in its own right, just not very surprising for me. The ending is where it really lost me, I’m not a fan of open ended, leave things wide open things so I didn’t love that aspect. Overall this may work better for you if enjoy slow burns that you can really sink your teeth into.
I will read anything Kristy writes, I’ve loved all of her previous books that much but I have to admit historical fiction isn’t my favorite genre as of late. So I had a tiny little bit of hesitation before I started this but within a few chapters I knew I was in good hands, I should’ve known better because whatever she writes I now know I’ll love regardless of the genre.
While this one is set in the past it’s also set in current times as well so you get both HF and a contemporary and I adored both timelines. You have women spread over the past and present and they’re all tied together in a mysterious way connected to a gorgeous wedding veil. As usual this is full of rich descriptions of the scenery as well as well drawn characters, a group of strong and inspiring women who you’ll adore. There was something so beautiful about this book, it’s a real treasure and one that I just loved.
No matter what if a book revolves around sister relationships I’m always going to pick it up but add in a missing person and I’m even more excited. This right here 👇🏻 got me.
From the synopsis: Two identical twin sisters and former child actors have grown apart—until one disappears, and the other is forced to confront the secrets they’ve kept from each other in this twisty suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Things.
While this isn’t a straight up thriller, (it’s more suspenseful than anything) I still found it to be really fast paced and tense anyway especially as there are a lot of unanswered questions about where Elli is, but really that’s just the beginning here. So I was super invested in the story for sure, definitely wanted to know if Elli was in fact in a cult!! All of that to say, the story itself was intriguing enough but where this really stood out for me was in the characterization. Elli and Sam narrate in alternate chapters so you get to know both of them and the author does such an in depth character study you really feel like you know them very well by the time you finish. I think I’ll stop there because I don’t wanna get into the plot too much but if this at all sounds appealing to you please try it, I thought it was so engrossing and fascinating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this one was a pleasant surprise for me, I didn’t have any real expectations before I started I just knew it was about a single mom and her daughter who move from the city to the suburbs in NJ when the mom falls in love with Jeff who lives there and that’s really all I needed to know before adding it to my TBR. I truly didn’t expect to fall in love with Ginny and her daughter, Harri or to laugh so much either. This was funny and witty in the vein of Abbi Waxman who I LOVE and it was super heartfelt and full of some wisdom with a side or humor. I’m also a huge fan of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and the women in Ginny’s new neighborhood could give Melissa, Teresa, Dolores, Jennifer, Marge and Jackie a run for their money IYKYK There were also some wonderful side characters as well, truly a well rounded vibe with people behaving badly and normal, good people just trying to live their lives. A perfect balance between family dynamics, romance and gossipy neighborhood antics, this is a great spring read!
The synopsis of this one says it’s about revenge, murder and shocking secrets and those damn buzzwords will get me every single time, anyone else?! Then it opened super strong for me, you have two bodies being carried out of an elite private school but you don’t know who and then it flips back a few weeks. So needless to say my attention was there right away and it genuinely stayed there throughout the book. This was a total popcorn thriller, lots of drama between the three women who narrate but although it was definitely catty fun at times it also went pretty dark too. If you like books with toxic relationships, betrayals and plenty of surprising secrets try this! I listened to this one and throughly enjoyed Teri Schnaubelt’s narration.
