When I think of a beach read I want something with some drama, a fantastic summery setting, and a plot that has its fair share of secrets and scandal. Vacationland had all this and more for me, definitely an ideal summer read for me!
I think I’m finally realizing that maybe this authors books are just not for me. I was a huge fan of her debut and then her last few books have been just ok for me. I’ve been waiting for another amazing read from her and instead I end up being underwhelmed and disappointed. Her books always start out strong for me, I’m usually interested and they are definitely fast and addictive reads. But then everything falls apart in the end and that’s unfortunately what happened again with this one. Things just got ridiculous and a lot of the story didn’t make sense. It was either predictable or just downright absurd and I just couldn’t believe it. Definitely would classify this as a popcorn thriller but if you do decide to try it know that’s it out there, dramatic and incredibly over the top.
This was a sweet little read about starting over and healing in the process that I liked but didn’t quite love. I enjoyed the fact Mary, Ollie and Daniel were a little older than the average main character. As cute and fun as this was it deals with some heavy emotional stuff but it handles it in a hopeful manner so it’s not all that sad. The location is ideal for a summer read and there were so many heartwarming scenes and moments but it did drag a little for me at points during the middle. But as an easy way to spend a few hours I still mostly enjoyed it and can definitely recommend the audio version as it was great.
Lately I cannot get enough of celebrity romances and this had a famous rapper AND a prince! Dani and Jameson don’t seem like they have much in common at first glance but there is no denying their chemistry upon meeting. This one was sexy and charming and I am obsessed with Dani. I loved the look inside the music industry and the not so posh side of Royal life, such a great combination that I didn’t know I needed. For tropes you get forced proximity, enemies to lovers and opposites attract which for me is everything. The audio version was great, I loved Wesleigh Siobhan as Dani, she was incredible and while I didn’t love the male narrator as much, he wasn’t anywhere near bad. This one was so so good if you like modern royal romance/celebrity romance with steam, wit and lots of swoony moments.
This was a middle of the road read for me so I’m gonna do a what I liked/what didn’t work for me style today.
What I liked
✔️Strong writing
✔️Multiple POV
✔️Relevant current events that could be ripped from the headlines
✔️Strong opening that pulled me in
What didn’t work
👎🏻Too much of a slow burn after an exciting beginning
👎🏻Felt repetitive during the middle
👎🏻Predictable parts that didn’t surprise me
👎🏻I didn’t really connect with the characters
See what I mean? Too all over the place for me so I’m gonna go with ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and call it a day
This is my second book by the author and while her previous book was just ok for me, this one worked much better. There were times while I was reading it that I thought for sure the author was gonna take the easy and obvious route as to how to plot was developing and I’m so happy to say I was wrong. I thought the pacing was good, nice and steady and I was never bored, it definitely kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next. Dead spouses in a thriller in obviously nothing new but I thought the author did a pretty good job at putting her own spin on things. I listened to this one and Leslie Howard narrates and she was new for me but she was great. I would describe this as a lighter style suspense/thriller, great for a summer weekend read.
Oh my heart I freaking loved this book SO much!!
From the synopsis: A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston.
I really liked the authors Once Upon a Con series so I knew I would probably like this one, but I didn’t know how much I would actually adore it. Florence was the most endearing character and I couldn’t blame her for thinking love and romance is dead. The fact that she could see ghosts added so much quirky fun and reminded me of my beloved The Kindred Spirits Supper Club, so if you liked that try this one! I wasn’t quite sure how there would be a happy ending between Florence and Ben, he’s dead after all, but the way this one ended was utterly perfect and oh so satisfying. Highly recommended by me, such a sweet and special read
First things first, before you go into a Will Dean book it’s best to know as little as possible so I think all you need to know here is that Molly and Katie are twins and when Katie gets murdered in NYC Molly leaves England to go and try to see what happened with her sister. I swear that’s it but doesn’t it still sound really good?!
Much like the authors last book this was a total binge read and it had me in its clutches from page one. I will say that compared to the second half the first one is on the slower side but I was never bored. Things just take a big turn halfway and then it went from a good read to a great read for me so if you happen to start this and wonder if it picks up, it does for sure! Not much else I can say without spoilers but I highly recommend this for fans of clever and twisty thrillers. You may need to suspend disbelief at some plot points, but when a story is addictive as this one is it’s worth it!
