Just the idea of a divorce attorney being a wedding officiant makes me giggle, talk about an unlikely match up but it works here. Even though RJ is far from a romantic she’s able to push her feelings aside and enjoy her time uniting couples. Her and Lear have the opposite of a meet cute and while RJ wants to strangle him she can’t fight their insane chemistry. So a rough start for these two but they quickly fall into a enemies with benefits situation and the steam is hot! Besides their obvious physical chemistry they have more in common than they think. Both are type A and super driven and watching them try and navigate their situationship was pretty entertaining. I actually liked RJ more than Lear in the end which is rare for me in a romance but her being so prickly made her endearing to me. Overall a really enjoyable read with a fun and sexy feel.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of the authors previous books and always find them to be page turners with clever twists. I always look forward to a new read from her and this was one I was eager to read. Unfortunately this missed the mark for me in the end and I can’t say I was a fan. There were things I liked though, the setting was strong and the idea of being stuck on an island at different times based on the tide was great. I also liked the dysfunctional family aspect, and the Darker’s were dramatic and just an odd bunch. What didn’t work for me was the big twist, I thought it was just silly and it didn’t even really make sense to me. I won’t get into why because that would ruin it but the motivation was off for me. So overall not great for me, but the audio version has a fantastic narrator in Stephanie Rancine and since I’ve liked the authors other books I’ll definitely still be reading her in the future.
I appreciate a thriller that doesn’t waste time and jumps straight into the action and this one did exactly that. The creep factor starts high and stays that way as some seriously disturbing shit happens to Eli while she is being held prisoner by her number one fan. SO creepy. There is a lot of on page descriptions of torture and most of it was hard to read, seriously parts scared me and I’m not easily spooked. But if you like the angle of a creepy stalker who is truly unhinged and getting a glimpse inside their head this was pretty good. I was unsettled the whole time and think if you’re in the mood for a dark and disturbing read this could be it.
What would you do if your ex boyfriend from college wrote a movie about your relationship? No thank you sir. I would die. But that’s the basic premise here, so I knew I had to read this and find out how Callie would handle things because I know I would not handle it well myself. This flips back and forth between the present day and back when Callie and Ethan dated all through college and you slowly find out what went wrong in their relationship. I really had no idea how this would end and that’s always a fun bonus in a non mystery/thriller read. As much as Callie’s old relationship is a catalyst for things that happen in the book it’s about way more than an old romance. There’s some family drama and interesting dynamics between her and her sister Nina. It was truly about Callie herself and her path to letting go of the past and finally being able to move on with her life. It gave me Camille Pagan vibes at times so if you like her books definitely give this a try!
Sometimes a feel good read is just good for my soul and this was just the ticket for me! (See what I did there? 😉) I love an unlikely friendship and the relationship between Libby and Frank was too sweet. How could you not adore a man who has been looking for the one that got away for 60 years?! 😭 This was truly a heartwarming story of second chances, found family and the kindness of strangers. If you’re looking for a sweet and wholesome read this was a delight.
This was such an odd read for me and I usually do ok with odd but I struggled with this one. Not only was it strange, it was also dark and that’s a weird thing for me to not enjoy. I like my thrillers dark and am normally not bothered by much but this was such a weird book that it bothered me. I expected it to be mostly full of dark humor, and it was but Laurel was seriously messed up. Not only is she relieved when she assumes her husband is dead she doesn’t really stop longing for him to die. Like really fantasizing about it to the point that it becomes her entire personality. Excuse me, what? Get a divorce already. Look, I could see where she was coming from because Doug is no prize but she had some serious issues herself. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and unfortunately it never did, the whole thing felt like one big meandering story that never went anywhere in the end. And the end itself was bizarre which is truly saying something for this book. I guess if you like really messed up dark humor and could take this as satire this may work but it was a miss for me.
I’m gonna keep this brief because I really think this was just a case of poor timing on my part and it’s not the poor books fault. I read this at basically the same time as I was reading Yours Truly and there are some similarities with the plots, fake dating and kidney failure and I was just way more invested in YT than this one. I felt like I was reading a very similar story but one was just giving me everything and the other was just meh. So take this with a grain of salt because the reviews are great and it’s probably just me.
