I found this really hard to follow so I DNFd at 30% ...the author kept casually referencing an event that happened that was a big enough ordeal for our FMC to have PTSD from it, but there's no book or prelude that gives us full ideas of what the heck the kidnapping event was even about. But she referenced it SO many times in just the short amount of book it felt like I was being gaslit that there was a book previous to this one when there isn't. The writing flow otherwise is smooth and then really choppy as of someone spliced things in. I can normally handle a lot of grammar flops and stuff if the story is good enough, but this was abrupt enough that it just kept taking me out of the story. 

After a few weeks, I started again and this time pushed myself to finish and it got so much better half way through. We learn bits about the kidnapping as we go...but only after halfway through. We are still missing a lot of details, but if you can make it halfway then I think you will enjoy it.
