🌶️Tʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛs:
This was an enjoyable read. It’s refreshing to read a romance involving mature characters. 
[As an aside: this is labeled as a “later-in-life” steamy romance. As a 53yo, I’d like to argue that 45 & 36 aren’t exactly later-in-life but comparatively to the norm I suppose it works.] 
First off, I’ve never read a book set in Tel Aviv so this was wholly new. I love learning about new places and new language. Told in dual POV we get both Dafna and Erez’ thoughts and feelings as they navigate this situationship. That is a nice touch. It is written in third person so it takes a little getting used to and some rereading every now and then. 
I really loved the communication throughout the book, in all the relationships. Showing that even after divorce families can still continue to work together and depend on each other when needed is a highlight for me. (Someone send this to my ex 🤪)

This was the most fun, quick, mid spicy read. I enjoyed spending time with Susie, Lars, and their besties Cleo and Tore.   

I listened to the audiobook on @librofm thanks to @valentine_pr_ and @offmicandi was so good!!! She really captured Susie’s essence. I loved her sassiness and witty voice. The banter was so good and she nailed it.   

For a quick read I thought I’d give a quick bullet point review—  
Things I Loved:

Things that didn’t work:  
•the prologue as a bonus chapter  
•the “magical element” wasn’t really necessary to me and could’ve been left out but it was still cute

Look, if Jessica Payne writes it… I’m gonna read it. And she DID. NOT.  DISAPPOINT. yet again. In Jessica’s signature style there are twists on twists and red herrings evvvverywhere. And that’s why we love her. 
This is told in two POVs, Madeline in the past in the time leading up to her disappearance/declared death off a cliff on her honeymoon and Rebecca in current time seeking to avenge said death. There’s jealousy, betrayal, revenge, stalking, lies… all the fun stuff. 

If you loved Robyn Harding’s Drowning Woman, Gillian McAllister’s Wrong Place, Wrong Time, or Tarryn Fisher’s The Wives - you’ll love this one.

🎙️THOUGHTS
I love historical fiction because I’m always learning something new. As someone who shares a birthday with Susan B Anthony (so I always thought we had that ✨connection, ya know) I thought I knew more than most about the women of this time period but boy was I wrong. I didn’t even know Anna Dickinson existed. To be such a strong woman, speaking out against the injustices of slavery at such a time is incredible. She was a renowned orator. And therefore she is ripe for the picking where assassins come to play. 

Julia Pennington (fictionalized for this story) became her companion, not of her free will, but in the end they fell in love. But as Anna is a Quaker and Julia comes from an irreputable family the balance is always slightly off. 

There is a plot line with a reporter that only listening to the audio I didn’t quite follow but that’s a me problem. This is why I usually read in immersion. 

I’m interested to see where the series goes! Book 2 is CENSORED ANGEL about Ida Craddock, a Victorian sex counselor ‼️

Four teens join together to participate in a digital scavenger hunt across Seattle as Team JERICHO.  Each of them is diverse and has their own strengths: Jax- cryptologist, Yas- a Parkour expert, Spider- a hacker, and Han- a cartographer… no gps here. They’re Black, Muslim-Pakistani, trans, sapphic, autistic with selective mutism, (and a nonbinary parent). 
A vigilante group called The Order 👁️ creates a puzzle with promises of a huge reward. The teens see this as their chance to save their community and fight back against the oil refinery that is planning to build and puts them all in danger. There isn’t a choice, is there?? 
This is a FAST moving, action-packed book. The clues were really fun and SO clever!! I love puzzles so this was my favorite part. Because it was so fast paced and there was so much happening I do wish there was more book though. 250 pages seemed a little short. It will be a great read for MG. My son would’ve absolutely enjoyed this book at that age. In fact it gave me an excuse to message him and chat. He said it sounded cool and it’s kinda like ARG (Alternative Reality Games). I asked if that was like geocaching and he basically said mom, go read a book 😹… any chance to talk to them when they leave the nest, right?
