Baking in the GD quarantine~
This book is just so much fun, crammed full of jokes, colorful commentary, and suggestions for further variation/experimentation; each of the treats has a hilarious backstory. And as a complete amateur, I really appreciated the reference pages about gluten-free flours and substitutions and general baking tips.
(Also, the photos and design are so vibrant and playful. Shoutout to Corey Lubowich.)

Yes, it’s a kids’ book, but it’s a Lemony Snicket kids’ book. Which means the story is simple and blunt yet quirky, and the illustrations are charming. And I’ve been in the mood for something light and quick, so this was a perfectly timed read.
All the hallmarks of a good Snicket book: a mystery that is not the apparent case to be solved, cast of characters each shadier than the last, lots of coded messages being sent and received, and Easter eggs for readers of his other works. That is to say, this might be a middle grade novel but I really enjoyed it.
