I did a double take at the naming - Mason is an unusual name for a girl, and the fact that she's a fencer made me wary of a Mary Sue - but she does have a vivid personality, real weaknesses (such as claustrophobia) that counterbalanced her heroine status. The tone reminds me a bit of Teardrop, in a good way. I loved the blending of cultures, too.
