Thank you to Penguin Teen for sending me a copy of this book to read!
I loved this one! I thought the characters were enjoyable and relatable, the police work was mostly believable, and it had an ending I probably should have seen coming but didn’t!
I really want to read mysteries and spooky books for the fall this year and it ticked off all my boxes!
✔️ serial killer
✔️ creepy scenes
✔️ mystery that keeps you guessing until the end (I did figure out part of it though)
Definitely recommend doing this one to your TBR pile!

I want to start off by saying I don’t like that this was pitched as a mystery thriller. It’s got the tags on here, it’s shelved with them at Barnes and Noble and there is no mystery or thriller about this book until the last like 80 pages which I think is super important to know going into it.
Otherwise I thought this was a good book and it was a very interesting look into a character that is bipolar. It dealt a lot with what she went through every day and how being bipolar effected her everyday life while away at school.
It addressed a lot of different topics including bipolar disorder, student/teacher relationships, and bullying in an all girls private school.
I think this might have been a 5 star read for me had I not thought it was going to be a mystery/thriller. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop and got frustrated when it took so long honestly.

If you’ve ever read a Jessica Goodman book before this is pretty on par with the rest of her books.
I will say that if you’re looking for some crazy reveal at the end you’re looking in the wrong place. I think her books are solid 4 star reads and are always entertaining which is why I keep reading them!
I had an idea of where the story was going from the beginning but I was hooked into the story pretty quickly. The characters are just wild and it’s a pretty telling story of entitlement in high society New York. You can’t always get what you and what you think you deserve isn’t always what you get …
Definitely recommend this one, like her others!

Another fun read in the Book Retreat series! This one was definitely more action packed than the previous books and I enjoyed that. I think I read it faster because of all the extra drama and action in it. Looking forward to the next one!

While Goodreads says this book is part of a series is definitely still reads as a stand-alone. And thank goodness for that because I did not feel like trying to find copies of the first two just to read a BOTM pick (because BOTM does not tell you when a book is part of a series

3.5/5 stars
Honestly, this was definitely my least favorite book in the series so far…
Instead of evolving as a better, stronger character in this book, I feel like Marion went through a major character devolution instead. She saw in the past how working together helped bring cases to a close even easier and yet she insisted on lying to her friends and leaving them out of a situation they could have absolutely helped in. And then she just kept making everything worse and worse as the story went on and she somehow still ended up getting a job offer at the end of the book? Like how? By ignoring direct orders her boyfriend was beaten, a man was murdered, $5,000 was lost, and 2 more people were nearly killed ……..

Not gonna lie, this is probably my least favorite of the Harry Potter books. That being said, it's still fantastic.
