Great character development, great overall story…. Too long and a little too much time spent on things that could have been left out

Absolutely loved this one! Couldn’t put it down and totally didn’t expect the outcome!

This is not my usual read at all, I try to stay away from books like this because I think they’re so corny

Seven teens fight in a tournament to the death to see which family will have control of the high magic of Ilvernath for the next 20 years. But there’s something different about this year’s tournament and it’s champions…. Is it enough to finally end the curse that sends six teens to die every 20 years?
I had pretty high hopes for this one and it definitely didn’t disappoint! It’s a Huger Games meets … I don’t want to say Harry Potter but probably Harry Potter. I really enjoyed the lead up to the tournament but I do wish we got to hear from all seven characters, not just four of them.
The tournament itself was pretty intense, what we got to read about it. I m looking forward to reading more about it and what happens in the next book!
I wasn’t a fan of some of the characters at the start but they grew on me. And the reverse happened too, I liked some characters less as the story went on.
This was definitely a good one and I’m looking forward to the next book coming out!

Malibu Rising is a uniquely told story about the Riva family throughout the years. The main portion of the story is told over the course of 24 hours with flashback interspersed throughout the book.
This book has a little bit of everything in it. It’s a love story and a story of heartbreak. It’s the story of a family who will do anything for each other and a family torn apart. Growing up and being free, finding yourself and being there for others.
I don’t know what it is about Reid’s storytelling but something about her writing just draws me in. She really knows how to craft a story and make her larger than life characters seem so normal. Highly recommend her books!
