3.5 stars, tipping towards 4

One of my favourite Agatha Christie's. This version was an audiobook dramatisation and really good, with June Whitfield as Miss Marple.

I first read the Deverry series way, way back in the late 80s/early 90s when the books were first published. I think I might have re-read them once shortly after but it's definitely been about 20 years since I last visited them and I've forgotten the story almost totally - apart from the fact that it was really good.

A re-visit didn't disappoint. Still really good (4.5 stars). A classic traditional good-versus-evil fantasy story in a medieval-style world with magic.

A good start but the story dragged on and the writing got a bit cheesy and artificial.

Well it took me two attempts to get into this, and a long time to get past the middle, but I'm still giving it 4 stars because in the end it was a very good story and I enjoyed it.
