Thank you, NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
So, yes I like to read Christmas books in the middle of summer. The story of a proposal planner that has to plan the proposal of her ex, who actually asked her assistant to do it because she’s too busy with work? I really wanted to read it. And it took me a lot of time. But the second try was the good one.
The plot is messy, but so is this story. The first half of the book really made me laugh. The second half was also good. It felt like reading a lesbian hallmark movie with a lot of clichés. The one obsessed with Christmas, and the second one who builds walls around her and hates it, the instant love... Also, the fact that there is no homophobia? Yup, that’s a food point, so many lesbians. Bravo les lesbiennes.
But, because yes there’s a but, I think a lot of things were under-exploited. Like, the trauma that the characters faced? Really, love can’t heal everything, just go see a therapist. I like miscommunication, but come on, the big one felt too pushed. So you heard a rumor coming from someone you don’t know? And you just assume that she abandon you, and want to break up? Come on. Also, the sex scene? Not that good...
It’s not a bad book, but, it would be a great hallmark movie!
