“The love they talk about in books and songs is always sparkling... I'd always longed for it myself. I wanted to feel like I'd sprouted wings, like i was floating in the air... I had high hopes. And yet... my feet were still planted firmly on the ground.”
This was super cute! I'm not a big manga reader in general, though I'm hoping to change that, but this might be my favourite one I've read thus far. This follows Yuu, a freshman who has decided to help out the student council instead of joining a club. There she meets Nanami, a popular well-liked junior who immediately takes a shine to Yuu. Cue messy romantic feelings.
This is a solid first volume, laying the groundwork for the main relationship and the social dynamics between characters. I really hope the future volumes develop the main romance more because while I liked what was being set up in this, it's pretty underdeveloped at this point. There's also some dubious consent in terms of kissing in this, so I would steer clear if you don't want to read that.
So long as my library has future volumes, I'll definitely be continuing this manga series, and would recommend for those who like manga and those who are newbies like me.
I really liked this a lot... for the first three issues. Then it got a bit iffy for me. This takes place after the death of Natasha Romanoff and follows Clint and Bucky as they investigate suspicious murders that seem like the work of their dead ex-girlfriend. Clint is convinced she's alive, Bucky is convinced there's a copycat.
The stuff I just outlined in that description? All that stuff is fantastic. Clint and Bucky are such a fun pairing to have and Rosenberg is so good at writing both of them, plus their dynamics with each other and Natasha. The first three issues is more or less just the investigation portion as the two boys try to figure out what's going up with these murders while also nearly getting killed several times themselves.
But then the last two issues start providing answers and that's where I completely lost interest. It's too much exposition and too action oriented, which sound like two things that are impossible to have together but apparently not. I also think the art suffers in the last two issues. Travel Foreman's style works really well for the spy thriller vibe the first three issues have going on, but I don't think the action was drawn especially well and as I said, that's a lot of the last chunk of this comic.
I would still recommend, if just for the brilliant duo that is Bucky and Clint, though I doubt I'll ever reread this.

This is the first Captain Marvel comic I've ever read, and suffice to say I'm not disappointed. I didn't realise until I finished this that it's written by Kelly Thompson, who has done some wonderful things with my beloved Kate Bishop so I should have known it would be good.
Carol after some time spent in space after a tragedy is back on Earth, and within days she ends up trapped on an island full of women, all being kept there by the tyrannical misogynist Nuclear Man. This isn't a perfect comic by any means, especially when it comes to plot, but it's extremely fun and is probably the perfect jumping off point if you just watched Captain Marvel and want to read some of her comics.
I already love Carol and Jess' dynamic. I honestly can't believe I've never read anything that included them both before because this is so up my alley, and you can anticipate me reading many more comics featuring the both of them. I'm now really hoping that in Captain Marvel 2 we get Jess introduced so I can see this dynamic play out on the big screen. This comic also made me wish we had gotten more of Carol interacted with the Avengers (especially Tony and Rhodey) in Endgame because their dynamics are so interesting and fun, and I think that was a missed opportunity.
There isn't really much to say about this other than that it's incredibly fun. It desperately makes me want to read more stories with Carol because she's already such an interesting and compelling character, as are all her relationships.
