This was a fun comic with an amazing art style and endearing main characters.

The plot of this volume was pretty meh, something I've come to expect with the first volume of most comics. The real saving grace is the two leads, who are great apart and even better together.

1) Midnighter, Vol. 1: Out ★★★½

There are so many reasons this volume is a step-up from the first. The plot is much tighter in this volume, meaning that I read it much quicker and enjoyed it far more. The side characters were all really good as well, the stand-outs easily being the Suicide Squad and Apollo.

I didn't mention this in my review of the first volume, but I really enjoyed the art style in both volumes, particularly the creative ways the artists would work around graphic violence.

Overall, a really solid volume that I would highly recommend, even to those who were lukewarm or flat out just didn't like the first volume.

I was expecting to really dislike this book, so already its exceeding my expectations. First, the good:
- Jude, while annoying sometimes, was a really good main character and I think Holly Black wrote her very well to be both sympathetic and morally grey. Her development was also really well done because it's (on the most part) subtle and I genuinely didn't expect her to do a lot of the things she did at the end, but they also made sense with her character.
- Vivi is the loml. That's all.
- I love Oriana was given depth beyond being a mean step-mother and I really hope she's given more to do in the following books.
- Holly Black clearly put a lot of thought and effort into constructing her faerie world, and I appreciated the small things we got, such as the way they're schooled.
- It's a tiny thing but the fact that this book a) both mentioned that periods exist and explained how faerie periods work, and b) had the main character pee at one point, made me appreciate it more. It made the characters and world feel more real.
- I'm not going to spoil anything, but the poison-related foreshadowing was done really well.
- The last 100 or so pages were really thrilling and probably one of the best climaxes I've read this year.

Now, the bad:
- Taryn felt like she was just there to cause drama, specifically drama with Jude that felt very girl-hatey to me. She never contributed to the overall plot and honestly, I'm just so sick of sisters fighting over petty things.
- Jace Herondale Sorry, Cardan, I got confused because they're  literally the same character! I hate Jace and, lo and behold, I hate Cardan too.
- Locke, Valerian and Nicasia were all really boring and underdeveloped so anything they did never really had an impact.
- The plot leading up to the last 100 or so pages wasn't overly exciting and it reminded me more of a contemporary drama than a high-fantasy political thriller.
- On that: this is not a high-fantasy political thriller, which sucks because that's what I kept getting told it was. It's a drama set in a high-fantasy world with some politics thrown in at the end.
- Holly Black's writing wasn't bad exactly, but it was choppy. Sometimes it would be very flowery and old-fashioned, sometimes it would be very modern, and I really wish she had just picked a style and stuck with it.

I honestly don't know if I'm going to continue the series, but I'm definitely not going to buy myself a copy of this book.

That half star is there purely because of my extreme amount of love for Midnighter as a character, which is a lot of the reason why I enjoyed this comic so much. The story is pretty meh, something I find quite common with comics based around the life of a single superhero so I generally don't dwell too much on it if the characters are good.

As previously mentioned, I love Midnighter, to the point where he's easily in my top 5 superheroes. This comic spends time exploring his character and the balance he holds between bloodthirsty murderer and superhero. The other major character, despite only being in a couple issues, is Dick Grayson, who was just as delightful as usual.

I'm excited to get stuck into volume 2 and hope that one makes it way up to a four star.

I got so mad I made an entire shitty video ranting about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r628brqZyII&t=2s

1) The Invasion ★★★★
2) The Visitor ★★★★★
3) The Encounter ★★★★★
4) The Message ★★★★★

Marco is my son and I would lay down my life for him.

This is an ongoing webcomic, and usually I wait until a comic is finished before talking about it but BOI do I have things to say. This has gone right up into the ranks of my favourite webcomics of all time, sitting comfortably with Rock and Riot & Check Please.

Reasons you should read:
- The romance is so soft and pure, even if it doesn't seem like it's going to be at first.
- Mitch is my gay son who I will protect with my dying breath.
- Jonas is the purest boy to have ever lived and I love him too.
- All the side characters are amazing (except for Dean and Neil, they can choke).
- The superpowers are really cool 10/10 would recommend.

REP!
- Mitch is gay and it's implied that he has an eating disorder and PTSD
- Jonas is bisexual (the! word! is! used!) and fat

Trigger warnings for eating disorders, death and child abuse (the chapters come with content warnings). There's also lots of swearing and (censored) slurs.

In conclusion, I am trash and there are multiple panels of this comic I want sitting above my imaginary mantle.

1) Iceman Vol. 1: Thawing Out ★★★

If you're looking for an X-Men comic with a great (or even consistent) plot then this isn't for you, but if all you want is some slice-of-life Bobby Drake you've come to the right place. Bobby is my favourite X-character and it was so nice to read about him just navigating everyday life.

1) The Invasion ★★★★
2) The Visitor ★★★★★
3) The Encounter ★★★★★

Holy crap, this series is already 10x more diverse than most current YA series I read. And the constant questioning of ethics and the differences between the mains and the Yeerks?? I'm in for a wild fucking ride
