This world keeps deepening, which I appreciate. Could have done with less of Davin's point of view though, as he's really not all that interesting a character.

Strange tome, populated by a strange crew. The characters are who I liked best in this book, but the pacing, in which the slow parts drag and the exciting bits are over with quickly, really put me off and I had to force myself back to it several times.

I'd been meaning to get to this one for a while. It's not as great as I'd built it up to be in my head from the cover and flipping through a few times, but it's still nice.

The premise, like much of DiCamillo's work, is absurd. And that's what makes this adventure hilarious and delightful.

I read this book with my 5 year old. She says "I like the jumping on a water bottle part the best." It was a fun inventive setting for a story. I thought the vocabulary a bit on the high side for an early chapter book, but that was okay.

P.S. I was going to give this book three stars, but my co-reader says it gets five.

Concisely told tales, which are pretty well done. The main drawback is the little morality-tale style questions at the end of each story. "Do you think so and so should have kept his promise? Was the punishment fair?" etc. It really brings you out of the magical story and into reality with a jerk, and interrupts the joy of reading fairy tales quite a bit.

Always a good read. Always.

Gorgeous pictures, but most of the projects are only ambitious, as well as easily accessable nature. Would not recommend for my urban library.

So much fun! I could wish for a bit more context, though. Political, emotional, religious, really any dimension of context would do. Still, the artwork is lovely and the world believable. I very much enjoyed this and look forward to reading its sequel.
