I love the Sanity and Tallulah books! This is a solid addition to the series, and really addresses some of the pandemic realities of the present day, in a lighthearted and sci-fi way that really works.

A solid issue book. There are some family dynamics that make it not only an issue book, but its still mostly that. Very well done though, throughout. I appreciate the intersectional portrayal of the issue, as well,

I really enjoyed this view of the Rodney King riots from a non white AND non black character's perspective. Very real in the portrayal of family dynamics, as well.

VERY well done ghost story. I took away a star because I knew the answer to the main question about halfway through the book, but I appreciated the ways that the characters reached the conclusion nonetheless, and cried at the sweetness of the ending.

too triggery for me, in terms of how much self-hatred the child expresses.

A lovely addition to the magical school genre, deeply rooted in it's cultural environment. The only thing I didn't love was the "poor girl in a rich school" trope, which I just feel like is overdone. But even though it's overdone in the genre, it was well done in this book, and didn't take over the other narratives. I hope that future books in this series expound upon how the magic works, because there is clearly  lot there!

This is a good story, continues not to grapple with the important questions the first book raised, and also I wish this had been the secret garden remake, instead of The In-Between. The sister relationship is really well done, as are the complicated feelings about families. I also like the very realistic portrayal of the Jewish families living in the tenement buildings that the Irish families have only just left. But I really wish we learned anything at all about what was strange about our main character's magic, or how magic works, or really any would building. Still, a very enjoyable book. I will read more from this author when published.

Solid and sweet, but lacking in any real excitement. Still, the drama was well done and the real understanding of what it means to be a Latine 1st generation American is really nicely done.
