Godkiller is a lovely book. If it were more tightly edited it would be tighter, but the world building is great, I CARE about the characters, and though it doesn't exactly end, it adheres to the "first book in a trilogy" format perfectly so I forgive it. Also, the way gods are almost pest-like in nature is just ::chefs kiss::

Things done well: Gender inclusivity, simple clear language, non-shamey discussion of things like leaking, inclusion of reusable products.
Things I wish had been included: a dimple diagram of a vulva, simple diagram of inside, uterus & fallopian tubes, a few more sentences on pregnancy. I know these are probably all left out because the book is a very focused look at periods and not a general puberty or sex-ed text, but it's still important to cover these topics at least a tiny bit.

I get that this might be redeemed at some point, but the adoption tropes are pretty cringey. From "We found you wrapped in rags" to "You were our wish granted" it was just too much for me to take. Now i think he's going to end up being partially a tree, and identity separate from adoptive parents will be addressed, but I still can't wade through all this to get to the magic.

Sweet tale of grief, that ultimately gives the grief itself more weight than I wish it did, by personifying it. Still there are few picture books that deal directly with losing a parent, and I'm glad ot add this to the collection.

This book brought tears of recognition to my eyes.
deeply strange, and a little unsettling. Aiming for heartwarming but I think it doesn't quite get there
