This collection was a lot of fun! I think the most fun I've had reading through a book of poems?

As somebody who is used to hearing Patois, it was generally  easy to read and the comic effect was heightened.

I thought there would be more direct parallels/links between specific Shakespeare scenes and the scenes in this poem, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the scenarios presented.

Also, there's a great introduction by Karina Lickorish Quinn, which I recommend reading at the end!

I knew this book was going to be about the gaming industry, but I didn't know what to expect from the structure. If you enjoy startup stories, narrative nonfiction, and you're curious about the video games industry, then this is an enjoyable read. It was on the verge of getting a little to bogged down in specific details, but overall it was fun and enlightening! Made me want to get back to video games! It's been too long since I've played them properly.

I really appreciated this story of a single, black, British, 37-year old woman navigating the dating scene and society's expectations of her, and her hopes for herself. It was fun, emotional, and reflective.

There were times when my engagement with the book did dip and there were some depictions of spirituality that left me a little on the fence, but overall I'm really glad I read this book and there are some things I'm taking away to apply to my own dating life.

So glad I've finally read my first Emezi. The concept was unique and intriguing and I love the range of life lessons packed into the story.

Looking forward to reading their adult novels now!

I loved the idea behind this graphic memoir. The artwork was great and the whole thing conveyed a lot of emotion. I also appreciated learning about another perspective of the Vietnam War, including the implications and after-effects of fleeing a war-torn home. One to read if you're interested in those topics, or themes of motherhood, family, identity, sacrifice, and belonging.

Super disappointed in this book. It just didn’t deliver in the way I hoped it would. I had to stop myself from skimming it. Didn’t really pick up anything practical to apply to work.

I really appreciated the unique concept of this book but it just didn't hook me in the way I was hoping it would. I listened to it on audio and found myself too often bored or disconnected from the characters. This means that when the plot did get more interesting, I wasn't emotionally connected enough to the characters. I also couldn't fully wrap my head around a couple of key elements to the story, which further impacted enjoyment.

Though I did eventually find myself intrigued to see how things unfolded, sadly I didn't really connect with the storytelling in this book. In particular, the characters felt rather under-developed, both in their dialogue and with their decisions and actions.

Well, this was a rather strange, dreamlike, compelling quick read!  I picked it up to fulfil a prompt in The StoryGraph's very own 2021 Translation Reading Challenge:  "A book written by a Black woman in translation", and this one was wonderfully translated by Jordan Stump.

This is my first ever book by NDiaye — her unconventional memoir that precariously straddles the boundary between fact and fiction. The reader is left to wonder what actually came to pass in NDiaye's life and who the mysterious women in green represent.

I was not sure this would be for me as I'm not one for a lot of ambiguity, but I was mentally prepared and ended up enjoying the journey and the style.

I'm looking forward to trying some of her fiction!
