mystiereads_dbooknook's Reviews (723)

Before starting this one, I read a few reviews just as a sneak peek to prepare myself. One reviewer said it was the worst book so far in the series, and for her it dragged and almost made her DNF pile. The extra 100 pages were too much for her and she was disappointed.

So I went into this wondering what was gonna happen, especially since more pages usually means more joy for me.

At 20% I thought, hmmm where is the slow part, wonder if it has started yet.
At 50% I figured, ok maybe it is ahead...has to be...cause so far this is drama, emotion, and secrets, my excitement levels were high.
At 70% I realised that not everyone understands or appreciates the brick by brick building of an epic tale, as I gasped for breath and kept going at 1 am.
At 100% I was wiping tears, screaming, and shouting...THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!!!!

Could not stop reading this book. I went to bed late, woke up early just to finish the incredible flow and story the author built from the first page onwards.

If you are a regular to the series, we have new characters, and old characters are changed forever in this one. Be on the look out for heartfelt moments, tears, and anguish.

To the person who thought this was slow...I suggest you never read tolkein, game of thrones, or any actual meaty epic fantasy, you will be lost...and I ...I am just sorry you cannot enjoy this kind of adventure.

Well that was a glorious read. Many more links to this story chain have been added, and each one definitely worth it.

This book gave a nice bit of resolution even as it built up an even bigger task to come. But for now the Queen is ready, and her loyal court is viciously strong and ready to defend those they love, and the bonds of friendship that now tie them all together.

Highly recommend this one and I wait impatiently for the next in this wonderfully, adventurous fantasy tale.

Ok so I read this because I am very much in love with the Throne of Glass series. Same author, whose writing makes me happy. Just her style of writing. It is full and bursting with colour and texture. I love it.
This book, was good, and it turned great in the end. While I prefer a faster plot unfold than was done in the beginning and middle of this one, the fiery end made up for it and ensured I will be reading the second book in this series, come May.
So good book, especially if you love faeries and mystery and heroines who do stuff, rather then let stuff happen to them, but definitely a lazy leisurely read.

I am absolutely wrecked. Spent the last few days working around my reading for this one because you know it is the brotherhood and everything stops for them and J.R. Ward, even though she clearly hates us all and is trying to rip our hearts and souls apart.

Yes I am still shaken and upset over #spoiler# our beloved Chosen passing away last year.

This year's book was just as traumatising but with a mushy wonderful heart filling ending. (Still mad though)

You will fall in love with Rhage once again, and you will love Mary in a way that makes you want her as a bestie and a surrogate mommy all in one. They are the couple you want to be, and the couple that makes you think...YUP when things are meant to be you can work through anything. This one also teaches us that great love becomes even bigger and better when shared.

J.R. Ward writes about family. The kind you make for yourself, which more often than not is the kind that lasts beyond a lifetime. Another teary read for me, I will confess to actually crying out loud and shaking through some it, but Ward brought me back to happy tears and a beautiful Happily Ever After.

Loved this one and I continue to be in awe of this talented author :)
