I adored The Henna Artist, and so I was really excited for this one. Alka Joshi has once again written a story with vivid descriptions, complex, wonderful characters, and a compelling plot. This novel was a bit different than The Henna Artist as it has a bit of a mystery, but I loved it!

This was my first Guy Gavriel Kay, and it will not be my last. The beautiful prose grabbed my attention and kept me throughout the book. The characters and their arcs were phenomenal. This is definitely a new favorite!

Overall I did enjoy this book. However we had a lot of foreshadowing and mentions of certain things that I thought would be addressed by the end of the book, and that didn't happen. It felt like an incomplete thought. I am enjoying where the overall arc is going, and I loved seeing some of my favorite characters again.

How do I even rate this? This is such a weird, fantastical, children's book but it was oddly captivating. The dogs were adorable, and the discussion I had on this book was a blast.

The writing style of this book is like a Hollywood noir film in the best way. The mystery slowly unraveled while we got to know the characters through the author's vivid imagery and descriptions. I enjoyed the plot twists, and I was happy with the ending.

I really enjoyed this one! The characters were fantastic, and I loved the plot and all the twists and turns. The ending was very satisfying, and I would reread this series in the future.

This novella ticked so many of my boxes. I love the plot and the mystery of the djinn. This was a fast paced mystery with a great ending!

Meh. I really wanted to like this book, but I just didn't care. I would have DNF'd this if it hadn't been for a readathon prompt. I didn't connect with any of the characters and found them a bit one dimensional. The format used for the book was confusing, and I spent so much time figuring out which POV I was in that it took away from my enjoyment. I won't be continuing on with the series.

This was a phenomenal sequel to The Fifth Season. I could not put this book down and blew through it in a day. I loved finding out more about the world. Jemisin's world building is incredible, and her character work is stunning.
