A lady detective, Scottish legal theory, and melodrama. What more can you ask for? I really, really enjoyed this one! Even though we find out early in the novel what the husband's secret is, I loved watching Valeria work through the evidence and investigate what happened. I will definitely reread this in the future.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a rich, layered story with unique, emphatic metaphors and grey characters. I really enjoyed this one. The first 90% of the book was a nice, slow burn. I loved following Sayuri and her story. The ending of the book left me a bit unsatisfied, but it did not take away from my enjoyment of the book.

What a pleasant surprise! I went into this with low expectations as this is my first Allen Raine novel. I was immediately swept up in the gorgeous imagery of the coastal town and the daily life of its inhabitants. The first half of the book was lovely, and I enjoyed the ride. The second half ramped up in drama. Was it a bit overdramatic at times? Yes. Was it hyperbolic? Yes. Did that take away from my enjoyment? Absolutely not. The second half tackled some heavy topics and really connected me with the characters and their struggles. I flew through the last chunk of the book because I had to know what happened. So good!

I enjoyed being back at Buckkeep and following the adventures of Fitz and the Fool. There was a bit more humor in this one, and I love the slow burn of the plot. As is tradition, Hobb does include some heartbreaking moments, but overall I really enjoyed this book!

This...was not that good. I was uncomfortable with how the Jamaican chef was written, and I couldn't connect with the characters or the plot.

This was a great start to a new to me series. The plot was well paced, and the mystery was fun. I love Alastair, the cozy companion. He had such a great personality. The author did a great job of balancing the paranormal with the mystery.

Julie Anne Lindsey is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors, and she does not disappoint with Burden of Poof! It has Clyde, the adorable cozy companion, Mason, the hunky investigator, and the quaint, small town setting of Bliss. I loved the quirky characters and Bonnie's relationship with her parents. The plot was fast paced and well written, and I had so much fun trying to solve the mystery! I cannot wait for the next one!
