This was a fantastic conclusion to a fun, epic series! I loved the action from beginning to end and watching the stakes rise. I adored the character relationships in this one and how they were affected by what was going on in the world. The characters are vibrant and so much fun to follow. I loved the exploration of family and human connection. Robert Jackson Bennett stuck the landing on this one, and I am already excited to reread this series!

I loved this so much! We learn more about the magic, including the Warrens and the Deck of Dragons. I loved being back with characters from Gardens of the Moon as well as meeting new characters. I was so invested. The world and plot was epic and incredibly creative. I am still in awe of Erikson's ability to craft a fantasy on this level, complete with entire races, cultures, lore, and history. I ran the gamut of emotions with Memories of Ice, and the pay off was extremely rewarding. ALSO, THAT EPILOGUE.
“We humans do not understand compassion. In each moment of our lives, we betray it. Aye, we know of its worth, yet in knowing we then attach to it a value, we guard the giving of it, believing it must be earned, T’lan Imass. Compassion is priceless in the truest sense of the word. It must be given freely. In abundance.”
“A pointless, senseless death.’
‘They’re all pointless and senseless, friend. Until the living carve meaning out of them."
“Diversity is worth celebrating, Humbrall Taur, for it is the birthplace of wisdom.”
“What the soul can house, flesh cannot fathom."

Meh. VERY heavy on the mystery and not enough cozy characters and setting. This one just didn't hold my interest unfortunately. There was too much drama for a cozy mystery.

This was perfectly fine, but I feel like the synopsis was more exciting than the actual plot. There were a lot of characters but I got used to that. Noodles the dog was the star of the book. Trinidad Jones is a very likable protagonist. I will definitely continue with the series.

The Green Bone Saga is one of my absolutely favorite series, so I was very excited to get this prequel novella. I loved being back in Janloon and meeting Pulo Oritono, who is an endearing apprentice jade setter. Within this short novella, Lee wrote a compelling story with fantastic characters and world building. I loved the exploration of honor, justice, power, and corruption. While I do think you can read this before the main trilogy, I think my reading experience was enhanced because I got to see some of my favorite characters that I know and love. I am very hopeful Fonda Lee will release more stories from Janloon because I love visiting every single time.
