honestly, Katrina Leno is the only contemporary based horror writer that doesn't make me mad at the ending because I was tricked into reading about grief. Like, it's blatant this is about depression and handling so many things by yourself as a teenager, but then Leno brings in magical, fantastical (and horrifying) elements that leave you unsure about what's real or not, and I think it's incredibly well done.
