A fun combination of Arrival, Transformers, Independence Day and Shape of Water

A nice fun and exciting story

I loved the way this book was written following three different characters from very different walks of life. The book is written from their perspectives and each character has a very distinct voice and personality. We get to see the real life events unfolding through their eyes, filtered through their lives and experiences.

This comic is an action packed thrill ride of fun and friendship. Take everything you love about Adventure Time, add an ongoing plot/mystery and take out the excess of butt jokes, and this is what you get: an explosion of awesomeness that makes you want to read nor and more forever.

The post apocalyptic world described in this novel is vividly imagined. Pieced together through small details, and obscured through the lens of a religious document, it always leaves you wanting to know more.

The specifics of the magical powers pervading the story are always out of reach but tantalizingly close.

The novel deals with tough subjects in a powerful way. It explores themes of FGM, rape, female oppression, and more, and does so deftly and with hope for the future.

Haldeman does a remarkable and mesmerising job of using science fiction to communicate his experiences of the Vietnam War. The expendability of soldiers, the dehumanisation of the 'enemy', the horror of the battles, the endless nature of the war, and most importantly the way that it felt like the world had totally changed when soldiers returned.

It would have been nice if there had been more rebellions by soldiers, but you can't have everything.

The imagination and originality of this work is astounding. Each page leaves you wanting to know more about the world in which this space-faring tale takes place. Unfortunately the story is left unresolved as it leads into a trilogy, so I'm reserving a five-star review until I read the final book.
