Finally managed to finish this! I picked it up some years ago and couldn't get past the first half. Now here i am finished with such a classic fantasy novel and ready to read others in this expansive universe!

there was an interesting pace to this book. it was also a curious way to break up the pov between 3rd and second perspectives all while jumping between the characters.

This was a book that made me want to write my own poems. i found myself wandering among my thoughts while reading and had to periodically pause to get the thoughts on paper to continue reading the poems. i greatly enjoyed this book.

This book is not for everyone, there is quite a lot of build up and at times the story can feel extremely slow. if you are up for the challenge it's extremely rewarding and the story is marvelous!!

Anne Rice is a magnificent writer!!! even when she's rescinding previous plot points, it's done in a way that makes those voicing the stories seem the unreliable narrator(s) and makes you question the motives of all that tell us the stories of vampires!!!

this was a fascinating book where the ideas of horror mixed with both autobiography and petitions to create a very unique and creepy space for the idea of the dream house to "come alive".

very good would recommend.

it felt similar to neil gaimen's the graveyard book. similar vibes. this one was perhaps a little darker with things feeling a bit more vague at times but overall it was a good october read.

This was really good. i didn't really know what i was getting into but this is great fall/spooky vibes just in time for spooky season. it's a great read and very well written.

the grammatical mistakes were a plenty which made this difficult to get through, or really easy??? it read like fanfiction which can go both ways.

this book was trying to do too much, which ended up all coming off as confusing and kind of annoying. the magic system felt rushed and was made to feel very isolating yet didn't bother to explain itself. the main character was too in her head and didn't ever seem to come to any real conclusions, plus i didn't feel she made any character developments until maybe the second to last chapter. there were too many pointless characters introduced, and those that were meant to be important just felt like stand ins for something that wasn't well fleshed out. i would not recommend this book.
