This one was okay. i thought like the others this would have a similar interview styles as Reid's other 2 books in the same universe/timeline. this one felt more meandering with the constant close 3rd perspective that would switch from character to character, sometimes it was nice, other times it felt weird to be getting so much insight into such minor characters.

a decent sequel. although im mot sure how i feel about it the cliff hangers to make the series longer, more books? it feels a little forced at times, with no real conclusion to this second book.

On one hand it's interesting to see these first moments of Amira and Daindreth's meeting from his POV however it would be more interesting if the dialogue varied based on his own minds remembering, or something of that nature. the parts i enjoyed were those we couldn't see with the close third on Amira, but the parts that remain near identical to what we saw while they were together didn't quite expand the world as much as i'd hoped.

i will admit that i was hesitant to read this when i first got it. i've followed Elisabeth Wheatley on youtube for sometime, and wasn't 100% sure what i was getting into nor if i would enjoy it. spoiler alert i loved it so much i binge read the book in 3 days! its well written and the plot and characters are practically real! 10/10 recommend!

What a lovely read!!! very quick but oh so good!!

A classic, one i'd never read before.

Most of the other books by POC authors and about POC characters i've read have been pretty light and the happy ending feels like that of a romantic comedy, this is no such story. it is something far deeper and with more gravity to what really happens in the world, especially in America.

for those seeking a book with more truth and grit to reality this is a perfect read. for those who are looking to learn and better understand something they will never have to experience it is also a perfect read. please be warned that with these truths comes the gravity of what the real world can look like. i would not recommend this book to those looking for an escape.

What a great read!!! if you're remotely nerdy i would 10/10 recommend!!!

i think the thing that held me back from a higher rating was wanting more. i felt like so much was left open and unanswered. i'm assuming you get more with the prequel, but it left me feeling a little left out on things that felt important.

overall it was a fantastic read, and a great start to black history month for this year. 10/10 recommend!!!

I forgot about it lol also the hype for harems had passed for me
